I’ve been more bullish than a lot of fans on our chances of staying up this season, but I must admit I’m fairly underwhelmed by our business during this window.
Keeping Lyle would obviously be a big plus, but aside from that the quality of players we’ve brought in aren’t any better (arguably worse) than the ones we acquired during RD’s time. I’ll keep my powder dry until the summer before I go slagging off Southall and Nimer, but aside from the supposed Maddison bid there’s been little evidence that our budget has increased significantly.

Underwhelmed for sure. I will however wait until the summer to see if we really have been told some porkies

Have to agree. At this moment it seems funds are very limited. Hope im proved wrong in the next few hours . We could have also signed McGeady at the start of the window if he was a key target.

I find it so strange that so many people want to write players off as underwhelming without even seeing them perform in a Charlton shirt... then again is it that strange when the same people said the same about Conor Gallagher , Jonathan Leko et al..... 😂😂

Defender or Striker next please. We really need both, in fact two defenders, a Left back and a Centre back together with a striker. I fear we will be well short of requirements by 11pm. I agree mate we're well short but if only one more body coming in has to be one of those and not another midfielder surely.

I just realised you guys actually thought we should be able to bring in players like Bowen from Hull , who is now earning £80k per week.... now I can see why you are underwhelmed...🙇🏻♂️🙇🏻♂️

Just as wrong. What's the point of using hindsight to laugh at fellow supporters. Nobody knows how well or badly a player will perform. Fans just call it as they see it when they hear about a new signing. Who ends up right or wrong is just down to chance.

Exactly Lardi , go back and see the people excited by Kayal and Hemed , cos they had “experience” “been there and done it” , and underwhelmed by Conor “never started a senior game” Leko “ never scored” , it’s laughable... For clarity I was excited by all so I hit 50% on those 4 , plenty of people on here running at 0% 😂😂

For clarity I was excited by all so I hit 50% on those 4 , plenty of people on here running at 0% 😂😂 That's the easy option though isn't it. Just talk up every new player, welcome him and hope that he'll do well. Automatic positivity for its own sake. Sometimes you're going to be right. When that player turns out to be useless, the fans who were sceptical and said they were underwhelmed have got just as much right to laugh at the 'automatically positive' supporters. But what good comes from those two types of fans laughing at each other for getting individual predictions of players wrong? I don't think anybody on this forum is running at 0%. Automatically approving fans are wrong just as often as constantly sceptical ones.
For what it's worth I don't think any of our three loan signings are great or rubbish. They could all turn out to be real assets between now and the end of the season. Or they could all be poor. Or (most likely) there will be a mixed bag of good performances and shortcomings. But I will say that none of these three is a 'marquee signing' in my book. So I don't know what Matt Southall was talking about. Still, it isn't 11pm yet.

Late to the game with this, but it’s good to have Smith on board - but are we in danger of having too many midfielders again, which was a criticism earlier in the season? I know strikers are like gold dust but that department needs strengthening I would suggest.

No but it’s when the window shuts, not long and we can all debate cheerfully the good and bad from the transfer window. Be much nicer over a beer though, hey @lardiman , what ya say I get you a beer on Saturday and we can just enjoy being Charlton fans?! That's very civil of you. But I won't be there on Saturday. Another time perhaps. I’d like that mate, we are all Charlton despite our differences of opinion

There is not really a chance we lose Lyle in the next couple hours, is there?
Would make no sense. We WILL go down without a healthy Taylor. If we ship him off, the club might as well have brought in no one this window, saved the money, and started all over next season.

Easy option is to give the players a chance......? I’d of thought that was what a normal person does , have you seen this on Netflix , not yet but I can’t wait , don’t bother it’s rubbish...... hmmmm I’m still gonna give it a chance.... anyway let’s see who this last supa dupa signing is , and if it’s no one , and we keep Lyle , along with signing Bows up , I for one will be happy.... Many people believe their point of view is what other 'normal' folk think. Makes it easier to put down those who disagree, since there has to be something 'abnormal' (wrong) with them. Welcoming every player and wishing him well is fine if that's what you want to do. Laughing at other fans who don't behave that way is pretty closed-minded. From the point of view of a more sceptical fan, supporters who welcome every signing are mugs for giving their support far too easily, and devaluing it because of that. Giving something that has not been earned. More sceptical supporters set higher standards for the players they think should be joining the Club. They aren't willing to give their backing automatically to players they believe are not good enough. It depends whether you believe that any person who signs a contract with CAFC and puts on our shirt automatically deserves to be given loyalty and support - or whether you believe loyalty and support has to be earned with good performances.
I'm of the view that a player (who earns in a single week what takes me long months to earn) has to do more than simply pull on a Charlton shirt and pose for some pictures before he becomes somebody I'll look up to with admiration. Unless of course that player is of undoubted, proven superior quality. In which case he's OK with me!

Zain Westbrooke - another gamble. Almost no track record prior to this season.
Better than nobody at all, if he is going to be the last in. But impossible to know if he can do a job for us.
