Was always likely to happen with our form and injury record.

While I agree with you mate, it might be Gallagher himself, he might not like it here anymore. Hopefully he goes to someone like Swansea because we've played twice already, I don't want to play against him. He'll get some stick at The Valley if he goes to Millwall.

There no announcement from either side at present could it be he gone back to be assessed and then they will decide what’s best for him .. he may even get a chance to put his choice which may be back with us ...
At present the loan has yet to be cancelled officially!!!!

Maybe with our injuries Chelsea felt he was overplayed and a serious injury became a real possibility. Anyway he’s gone now. Thanks for the memories and good luck with the future To be fair his form has dipped considerably in the past month and is in desperate need of a rest

He was targeted as our best player or one of them at least. Can’t fault him though and he was 100% committed to Charlton.

He definitely wasn't at it on Saturday (still did ok but not his usual self).
Maybe Chelsea will have him ticking over for a couple of weeks (like a mini mid season break) and then loan him out again in the last days of the window. Or they might put him in a few of their matchday squads.
He's done really well for us and at least we got 26 games and 6 goals out of him, which is more than we've got out of any other midfielder this season.
One does wonder what it will do for morale though.

Gallagher's form has dipped since he started playing alongside kids younger than him, he isn't going to develop in that scenario and clearly Chelsea are not happy with the situation.
We had never even heard of him five months ago so we move on and look for the next one like him.

I don't see how we can have any complaints. Gallagher has looked good playing for us but in recent weeks he has been playing with a much weaker side and has not looked anywhere near as good. Swansea play proper football and are better than we are. I, personally, think that half a season with us and half a season with them will be more beneficial to his development than staying with us in our relegation battle.
I suspect that with Swansea he will play with much more experienced players. Let's be honest he's, virtually, been playing in an U23 midfield for the last month - he could have done that at Chelsea, I think he will be a better player in June for having twenty or so games with Swansea than if he stays with us, sadly.

Would of been good to know he was going and that was his last match - he would of got a standing ovation I think

In terms of development, it's as much about who a young player is playing against, than who he is playing with. U23 opposition cannot be compared to Championship opposition. I've also never bought into the argument that a player will go backwards just because the going has got a bit tough. Surely you want players who have not had it all their own way.

Hope it backfires on Chelsea, the guy is playing regularly, his teammates are returning from injury, better players are being bought for him to play next to. Better the devil you know sometimes!

Taking his age and inexperience into account, he did a great job for us and will be fondly remembered.

Pity it’s happened but was always a possibility I guess, but disappointing of Lampard to change his mind. I wonder if CG himself instigated it, as he has been struggling to show his early season form, he’s been carrying our midfield lately, and needed a rest really.
It still seems a bit strange, as we were favourites for relegation when he was allowed to join us, so I don’t really get that they want him to play for one of the top teams now, unless it’s his choice. I know he was only a loan player, but LB must be gutted to lose him after putting in so much work to improve him. That improvement has kind of backfired on LB now.
Good luck to him, he always gave 100%, and was a top player for us. We both move on, and now it’s even more important for us to bring in a quality replacement on a permanent deal. I feel for LB tbh.

We’ll never really know what goes on behind the scenes oldred but it’s worth remembering that back in August Conor Gallagher was an unknown quantity. There was no certainty that he’d be comfortable playing Championship football and it’s entirely possible that we got him because there wasn’t much interest elsewhere or, alternatively, because Chelsea weren’t sure he’d play regularly at a club with a stronger squad than ours. That’s all changed. The boy has blossomed and perhaps surprised a few people. More options have opened up. Moreover, if I was his minder at Chelsea there’s one aspect of his game that would bother me. He’s been excellent out of possession, but like all of our ball players he has, at times, struggled to get on the ball, in space. When he has found space he’s had an increasing tendency to ‘go it alone’ and make room for a cross or shot. That’s not how Chelsea want to play. He needs to learn how to play in a good side with good players and how to pass and move. Learning a few more ‘dark arts’ from the admirable Darren Pratley isn’t going to turn him into the next Frank Lampard.

Yes very true Mundell, but I think he has needed to change his playing style to what is needed with the players we have available now. It has definitely had an impact on his performances lately, and the Gallagher at the start of the season, would’ve been a bigger loss than the Gallagher of recent weeks IMO.

True andy but once every six years for good news , it's hard supporting Charlton lol I love it, without the lows you wouldn’t appreciate the highs. The buzz from that playoff was immense esp after the penalties with Donny. Some people do seem to love a good ol moan though alongside their sense of entitlement...

It’s far too soon to start panicking, I’m sure that a lot of work is going on behind the scenes to secure some players to strengthen the squad, however LB needs to finalise that contract soon, if he wants those players to agree to sign. He had already said, that it’s affecting his negotiations.
