I think leave the fella alone - he’s doing a fantastic job for the club and given us all a bit of belief I agree mate. What some fans find really hard hard to accept, is that he’s a professional sportsman, I.e. It’s a job to him and he isn’t a Charlton “fan”,however much he may have been enjoying playing for us. When the opportunity arises where he can better himself and his family, he will take it, in the same way that he did when he left Wimbledon to come to us. When famous people put themselves on social media, they need to expect that, as well as the compliments, they will get their fair share of trolls, but they shouldn’t need to expect people knocking are their door. Its probably good if he does take a break from Twitter.

Cheer a player when you can. Accompany your kid as he/she asks for an autograph, perhaps. Boo him if you want, although I'll do so exceptionally rarely. Never go to his home.

I didn't realise Taylor was going to be so busy during that weekend - just had not occurred to me before I read this post. Until now I haven't given much thought to who from our squad is flying off where. Everything crossed that he comes through uninjured and not too knackered. Any length of time without Lyle will be a serious setback.

You’d like to think Bows will give him some extra time off , he knows what he gets from Lyle already...

I’ve seen lots of great goal scorers over the years, Hales, Hunt, Whyte, Mendonca , Bent, to name just a few , but Taylor is a completely different type of player to any striker that I can think of or remember.
All of those players were great at their main job, of putting the ball in the net, but can you imagine Super Clive or Killer tracking back like Lyle does week in and week out ?
He’s putting in tackles at left back, right back, in midfield, defending from corners, he’s everywhere in every game, and still manages to be top goal scorer. While he may not have quite the same quality that others had, he is the most complete all round Charlton striker that I can remember seeing,
Does any have any other candidates worthy of consideration ?

For a player who wanted to leave for a lot more money if anything his work rate has improved, he's showed great professionalism.

and he is getting even better. He now always seems to have so much time on and off the ball, better control, more precise touches, better positioning, sharper runs, sharper strikes, impecable timing, clearer vision for the killer pass and those penalties -keepers seem hypnotised!

The guy next to me reckoned the keeper spat on LTs back after the pen. Anyone else see that?

Lyle is a very savvy guy and at his age throwing a strop would harm the chance of a big move in January or next summer.
My guess is that he would sign s new contract here if we matched Brentford’s wages as he is so comfortable here.
But that ain’t going to happen so take the cash and line up a younger replacement in Jan!

It’s also worth noting that Lyle Taylor’s successful penalty style is gaining him a wider following in the media. I’m not saying it’s a deliberate ploy, but it can’t fail to help him when he gets his move in January. I just hope we have sufficient points in the bank when he does leave, because he won’t be replaced.

We need to get him tied down on a long-term contract and not lose him like we did with the others.

He isn’t the skipper but is always the last off the pitch and controls the tunnel jumps. His support of the Cancer charity with the pink hair is both worthy and building the image and the penalty taking is more of the same. They will all be replaced - but not by one player but increasing the overall team performance to make up for his loss. ‘The King is dead! Long live the King!!’

No don’t think so IF we keep Bows and Steve I wouldn’t take the captaincy away from Pearce, he’s a warrior and a leader, but I think Taylor is excellent captain material, He optimizes everything about what LB wants from his team on the pitch, and sometimes off it. His penalties are getting more widely seen now which is raising his profile, I really don’t see him staying beyond January. I hope that SG and LB will be able to find another gem that can help replace his goals . That will be difficult enough, but replacing everything else that he gives us will probably be nigh on impossible, particularly given our budget. He is is still giving everything, enjoy him while he is here.

Taylor's petulance and social media posts, which always seemed immature to me (before recent issues), to me means he is NOT captain material, imho. I want a level-headed leader as captain. I think managers who use the title to keep stars happy show their lack of leadership mettle. Such as ManU's manager giving it to Pobga, who clearly is not worthy and the opposite of a leader. My next choices for captain would be Pratley and then Williams.

Frankly, anyone carping about Taylor is, in my opinion, totally barking. He's a terrific player and decent human being whose charity work and generosity with fans demands respect.

Nobody is ‘Carping’ - just saying that the choice for a Captain should be a mature individual, not someone who is prone to social media mood swings.

We're playing like a team who has 11 captains at the moment so it really isn't an issue.

Sometimes the responsibility of being a captain leads to a change of attitude with more maturity. I’m sure LB would have words with him re the social media nonsense.
It’s what happens on the pitch that makes a good captain, Solly was never going to be that person.
All hypothetical anyway I know, Pearce deserves it while he’s fit, but I can understand why LB gave the captaincy to Taylor when Pearce was injured.
