Duchatelet isn’t trying to progress. He’s trying to sell the club while limiting his losses in the meantime. What do you think will happen in January? RD is an experienced club owner who has bought and sold many clubs. What does one make of the failure to sell last summer? Different views of that process lead to different answers to your question. As ever RD has a number of choices at the next window: cash in to keep the club sustainable while providing the budget for a mid-table finish... help the club push on to the top six... and at the same time market the club with a new angle - bigger crowds and a team that is mid-table. Say we are 12th in January on 30 points - we all know what we want to happen, but leaving that to one side, will RD follow the logical business path and recognise that CAFC under Bowyer may have covered 2/3 of the journey from top six tier 3 to top six Championship? End of the day 12th is the same as 18th. But sixth means one can factor in 25% of the NPV of EPL... and it also means the valuation of our players goes through the roof. Win:win! Again that's speculative and outlining one option. So in answer to your question, "don't know, boss" Thanks for your reply seriouslyred Duchâtelet is nothing if not unpredictable, but I’d be very surprised if he decides to increase the funding available in January in an attempt to push for a playoff place. That would be totally out of character. Ironically, my guess is that he’d be more likely to spend money in the next window if Lee Bowyer tells him there’s a real risk we’ll get relegated. Though it was a completely botched job, this is exactly what he did in January ‘16, once he’d understood, far too late, that the squad wasn’t good enough. The reason, of course, is that a club in the Championship ought to be much easier to sell than one in League One, especially if it’s doing well. However, if we’re “well placed” when the next window opens I suspect his preference will be to sit tight, limit losses and hope for a credible buyer to arrive on the scene. I remain convinced he wants to sell, though I don’t know why he’s been unable to do so. Nevertheless, January is likely to be both interesting and stressful. We’re likely to lose Josh Cullen, unless West Ham decide to extend his contract, while Lyle Taylor will present a major dilemma. Taylor simply can’t afford to turn down a three-year contract at 15 or 20k a year, let alone more than that. If he’s sensible, that money would set him up for life. On the other hand, running down his contract, as he did at AFC Wimbledon, is a big risk. A bad injury and he could find himself out of work. From the club’s perspective it might be very hard to compete with what’s available elsewhere, while the “opportunity cost” of allowing him to run down his contract might be £2-4m. That will be hard to simply write off. As Lee Bowyer has said, it’s a very difficult situation. Odds are Taylor will go in the January window, I fear. If I was the club I might be inclined to offer him an 18 month deal, at below the “market rate”, but with a release clause, say set at £2.5m, which could be triggered post end May next year. That might just work for both parties. A bit like Boris Johnson’s wretched no deal Brexit strategy though, if such a pitch is going to work it might require Taylor to believe the club is willing to let him simply run down his contract, i.e. to forgo a transfer fee. Otherwise, he might simply hold out expecting to be sold. If Taylor does go, it’s possible Duchâtelet will ‘reinvest’ some or all of the money. Perhaps we’d go back for Ivan Toney? All speculation. I’ve no idea either!!

As much as I would love Taylor to stay, the way LB is talking it sounds as though they might have already made an agreement for him to leave in January.
I might be wrong, but maybe Hemed is his replacement, but couldn’t have been brought in soon enough for LB to let LT leave. It’s all speculation, but if he continues to score goals between now and January, he might receive a better offer than Brentford’s .
Charlton might still receive the 4m fee mentioned, or even more when clubs are setting their sights on promotion or survival.

I didn't realise Hemed was as old as 32. He surely can't be a replacement beyond the end of this season Is Bows relying on Bonne learning quickly? He's already said he won't be going out on loan as he wants to keep teaching him at Charlton.
I'm happy with whatever happens as long as we have players that want to be here. Cullen and Hemed are both those players, Taylor has had his head turned, even though he does clearly like the club.
Let's see what happens in Jan, where we are, who's performing well. I'd honestly be gutted to see us lose out on Cullen if West Ham recalled him and a team like Derby got him in

We have had dozens of players in the last 25 years who are better than Lyle Taylor- a lot of the jazz around him is linked to teens on social media.
Let’s hope he scores today. Personally I won’t be buying into the Cult of a player who is highly likely to leave us in January, no doubt peeling an onion on his last day.

Whilst I would agree that we have had some great players who proved themselves in the Premier league, there are very few who have had the impact on the team that he has. In the here and now, he is hugely important to our performances and chances of staying in this league. Thats without the fact that we wouldn’t have even been in the Championship, without his performances and goals last season. Its not not often that we get a massive fans favourite at Charlton, and it’s certainly not just with teenage fans. Maybe you are not a big fan of him, but there are many thousands that are, and on our budget he will be difficult or even impossible to replace. The fact that he has the chance of moving on for vastly more money, takes nothing away from what he has given the club so far, and no one can deny that he has earned it and deserves it.

Taylor is a good player who’s had an average career up to last year. He’s also an arrogant & flash individual - not my words, those of certain staff at Charlton. You would be surprised.

He's not only our leading scorer, but also helped convert play-off contenders into winners last season and has delivered in every game this time. Given there was a £4M bid in the last window, perhaps we might expect double that in January, which happens to be the CAFC annual losses! Perhaps we shouldn't buy into the cult of any player or manager and just enjoy the games while we can.

Penny for Taylor's thoughts today. Playing against the team that wanted him in the summer, who offered him a very good contract that at his stage of career and age would have undoubtedly turned his head and made him question his future. Then Charlton hanging on today and Brentford desperate for someone like him in their line up.... it must have run through his head the what ifs.
What saddens me is that your owner has left you in a situation where a club the size of Brentford (no disrespect but their away following was poor for a london club today)has more financial clout and are (emotions aside) a better option currently. As a football fan Charlton v Brentford the clubs are obviously of different historical stature but to a player at 28/29 who has hit prime late on like Lyle.. he could set himself up for his future financially- today was probably brought it back in his thoughts.
As an aside the whole team are putting in so much effort in the games so far this year, you wonder how long they can keep it going. its bodies on the line, blood and guts stuff and to be honest even as a neutral its great to see a team playing with so much heart - the crowd responding with such a good atmosphere in games so far. I just got the feeling today, something wasnt quite right with Taylor - he had less hustle, and looked a bit tired - I wasnt surprised to see him sniping after the game on twitter, even if he did get his foot stamped on - its a shame really.
Obvious to say, but he would be a loss that would possibly send you down if you dont get enough points on the board before January, he really is that much of a presence up top. I actually think he'd do a decent job in the premier league for a lower ranked team. That said, Bowyer has worked miracles with the new players in this year.

It looks as though Lyle Taylor has deleted / suspended his Twitter account.
His comments about Brexit were always likely to end in tears, and they have with many fans me included.
He can’t expect to post that Leavers are deluded and worse and not get a bit back.
He’s far better off concentrating on his football now until January, and leave Brexit to qualified people who actually understand the issues.

It seems he's deleted his Twitter account now i don't condone what has been going on.But am I the only one who thinks his personality has changed a bit since the transfer to Brentford feel through.Maybe not his football side of things on the pitch.

Yes I can believe it but he has done the heavy lifting over the past 10 years in non league and Scottish lower tiers. He is now trying to reap rewards from his final playing days as well as building up a huge social media following as part of a post retirement strategy. Some folk require arrogance in order to hit the heights in an industry of 90+% failure rate.

Social media for you , can you imagine the attention Mendonca , Bent or Hunt would of got if they were twitter users at the time and also 3 better strikers than Lyle . Good footballer Lyle is but perhaps it’s best he forgets twitter or what ever else he goes on and just concentrates on his football , he will get his move in January that is without a doubt and in the meantime fans need to stop wetting their knickers and hanging on to his every word.

Spot on mate When I was a lad I wouldn’t have dreamt of hanging around outside Paddy Powell or Les Berry’s houses. Times have changed. Yesterday’s incident occurred at 6.15pm outside of the Valley, where around 50 fans had waited for over an hour for the player’s autographs. Fair play to each & every one of them on what was a boiling hot day. It wasn’t that long ago that I was one of barely 800 Charlton fans paying to watch us in a Simod Cup match. Players like Lyle Taylor cannot have it both ways. He literally basks in the adulation he receives on social media from our kids. Yesterday one of them grew impatient after waiting an hour, and pushed to the front for an autograph. He stood on Taylor’s foot. All that Taylor had to say was “calm down mate” and leave it at that. Was it really necessary to post those 3 Tweets ?? Had he scored yesterday and not Gallagher, I would lay good money that those Tweets would not have been posted. Unfortunately with Lyle it is becoming all about Lyle....

I don't follow footballers on twitter. Or musicians, actors and politicians. Footballers inhabit a different sphere from fans, it's how it is, and the idea that you can chat with your 'mate' Lyle Taylor, or berate him about what he does off the pitch, or even on it, seems ridiculous. But what sort of sad act turns up at his house demanding photos and autographs? A stalker - it 's simple. If you did that to a famous woman they' call the police and rightly so. It's beyond intrusive, it's fucking creepy. And Taylor gets criticised on here. Why can't we just leave it on the pitch. Discuss his performances with your mates after the match or on here. But getting on twitter to tell him personally. Get a fucking life bell ends.

We had a few fans meetings in there as well, anyone else recall a very lively one with Mike Norris ? He got a very rough time from our supporters that night, but went on to be something of a hero. RIP Mike.

If all this is true and I say IF , what a fucking drama queen lol , he has defenders kicking lumps out of him for 90 mins and allegedly throws a wobbly because a young fan steps on his toe seeking a autograph bloody pathetic. As for fans knocking on his door where they under 16 ? Or where they or him adults ? If it was the latter that is creepy tbh would love to know the context of it now.
