How fking weak are these people? No spine and no determination. Top 5 and they are still staying away!! There are better owners than Duchatelet, just look at the guy at Fleetwood yet they are mid-table. As much as I hate Duchatelet we are 5th and looking good, January is going to be a telling month, if players come in and strengthen us and we are right up there with 10 games to go I hope the stay away's do just that. Their loss not ours. forum.charltonlife.com/discussion/84091/what-does-it-feel-like-to-have-an-unpopular-owner#growapair

Cannot speak for all the 'stayaways' but personally I'll stay away until I feel like coming back - which is highly unlikely to happen while Duchatelet is CAFC owner. If you and others are enjoying things at the moment then good luck to you.
Strangely enough I find myself with RD on this matter; we are both not interested and neither of us will be there on Saturday, or any time in the foreseeable future.

Strangely, I know all three posters on that thread that are the stay away's...they all have something additional in common, but nothing to do with football.
PM me if you wish to know.

some people just love to wallow in poor me crap. The football is good most of the time and the players care, that's good enough for me. Stay aways are missing out on watching players like Lyle Taylor working his tiny nuts off. When did anyone really care about the owner it was always about the players on the pitch.

I just don't get why people have to announce that they are staying away? If they don't want to go, fair enough but the 10,000 who do go don't take to social media to let the rest of the fan base know.
The only people who care about fans staying away are the stay away's themselves, they wouldn't have to keep reminding us of their 'heroism' otherwise!!

Strangely enough I find myself with RD on this matter; we are both not interested and neither of us will be there on Saturday, or any time in the foreseeable future. Lardi, I respect your decision to stay away and the same decisions of many others, but I just don't get it! When I was 4 back in the fifties, my dear old Dad first started taking me to matches and I got the 'Charlton' bug, they were then my team! When I was old enough to go by myself, I used to love getting the 51 from Sidcup to Woolwich with more and more fans getting on the closer we got. Then the walk along Woolwich Road before turning into the ground proud to be amongst fellow fans. When my son was old enough, I took him, he got the bug and I loved the bonding time with him. In those days we travelled the country watching the Reds. Since my Grandson has been old enough, I have been taking him and despite all his mates supporting Premiership teams, especially the Hamsters where we come from, he has stuck with it for a number of years now. He has also rekindled my interest in going to away games and even though he is only 11 has visited almost 50 different stadiums. I love taking him and once again the bond between him and his Granddad has grown stronger and stronger! You don't know how much I want us to go up this year just to give him something to be proud of. Through that period of time (many years) it is my team that I have gone to watch and support, with the ups of the Premiership years and the many more downs times especially in this godforsaken league. I don't really give a flying one about who owns us, it's not something I can control and I've seen many owners come and go. For me I am a Charlton supporter and all the while I am able and they are putting 11 players on the pitch with a Charlton shirt on their backs, I'll be there to cheer them on! Support your team, certainly don't worry about the regime, that will eventually take care of itself!

I love football, but most of all I love charlton. No owner, will ever stop me supporting my team, and all the while people like George Lapslie and Lyle Taylor and the rest of the players put in the efforts they do, then im happy. I will never understand people rejoicing in not going...

Lardi, you are a clever and very nice guy. RD lives rent free in your head...24/7, he doesn't know you are not attending.
Go Saturday...Please!

If you can't enjoy that, and watching the young players coming through then fair play to you. What are you trying to achieve other than getting replies on a message board?

The heady perfume of weed and garam masala at Bradford, the eye watering migraine giving chintz of Blackpool, a 15 hour journey home from very average Accrington. You've not lived until three of the trains you need to get home have been cancelled in a row adding hours to your journey time. Usually a good atmosphere.

Lardiman I have to ask you, who do you and others think you are bothering by not going? I'm not bothering anybody by not going. It is not my intention to bother anybody. I'm not going because I don't want to go. There isn't any point me turning up and pretending that I still feel the way I felt five years ago or ten years ago, because I don't. For a long time I denied that even to myself, but I am tired of pretending to feel something that I don't feel anymore. To be completely honest I don't even know if that will change when the day comes that I hear Charlton Athletic has a new owner. I very much hope it will; I dearly want to feel the passion for Charlton that I used to feel. But if it does not, then I won't lie to myself. I will have to admit that my time as a Charlton supporter is over.

Support your team, certainly don't worry about the regime, that will eventually take care of itself! It is very decent of you to say you respect my decision to stay away MurciaAl but I to be honest I don't think my reasons are deserving of much respect. I'm not staying away as a matter pf principle. I'm not going anymore because I find no enjoyment in it anymore, and have not for quite a while now. The people I used to go to the ground with and sit next to during the game don't go anymore. I haven't seen them at a home game for two years. Lyle Taylor scored a penalty in a home game a couple of months ago and I didn't bother standing to applaud him as most other fans did. When Charlton scored a goal from open play I did stand up and celebrate - but only because the scattering of other people around me were doing likewise. I felt nothing beyond a muted memory of how good it used to feel when I saw our team score a goal and win a game. Perhaps it is not RD at all. Maybe I am just using him as an excuse to hide behind, because I won't admit to myself that I don't feel any passion for Charlton anymore because I'm not the same person I was years ago. I won't know if that is true until there is a take-over and a new beginning for the Club. In the meantime I will just have to wait as long as it takes. I don't think it has much to do with the league we are currently playing in. I clearly remember the pretty awful 2008-09 season when we dropped out of the Championship in a pretty miserable manner. But I also remember that all through that season and the three League One seasons that followed I always looked forward to every home game. Being at the Valley gave me a buzz like nothing else - win, lose or draw. I never thought that magic would ever leave me. I know this next bit is going to sound bizarre, maybe even unbelievable. But if you offered me a choice between going to see us play AFC Wimbledon this Saturday, or going back in time tomorrow to watch Charlton grind out a goalless home draw under Phil Parkinson in 2009 when we were already relegated, I would choose the 2009 game. Because I can still remember so well how passionately I used to feel about Charlton back then, even when we were just learning how not to get beaten every week and were just playing for a bit of pride. I loved being at every home game back then. I went to Cup games whenever I could as well; anything to be there at the Valley with those mates I used to go with, and all the other fans. Today, remembering how I used to feel makes the experience even more hollow. I no longer feel part of what should be a great time, with wins coming and promotion a real possibility. It just doesn't matter now. It doesn't feel real. So I choose not to go. I envy fans like you who can still feel the passion swelling their chests with pride when the team honours them and the badge with a winning performance. Those fans who traveled to Fratton Park on Tuesday must have had a fantastic evening to be long remembered. I can remember feeling that good, but I simply don't feel it anymore. Sorry for the utterly downbeat tone of this reply, in contrast to your fantastic post.

Just copied and pasted from the CL thread.
Other than Richard Murray Part 1, and Roger Alwen + CO, CAFC have always had shocking owners. Duchatelet may have stated about watching the stars of the future before being sold but in my childhood, from Mike Bailey, Billy Bonds, Len Glover, Marvin Hinton, Mike Kenning, Alan Campbell etc to giving away Elliott and Paul Walsh for peanuts we have had Shite owners who had the same strategy, even if it was just a tacit agreement.
The Douchebag Shitweasel is a Nightmare, but just add his name to the list.
So a post over their which perhaps sums up many supporters view.
The big issue to me is the comparison between Karel Frye managing a bunch of liquorice allsorts more interested in the dosh than the club or Bow leading uk management team with primarily UK based and Academy graduates motivated as a team playing to win and relating to us fans. Like it or not this transition has taken place during RDs stewardship.

I’m sorry that you feel like you do now lardi , although I’m sure many fans level of pride, passion and enthusiasm, has been severely tested over the last few years . I can appreciate your not wanting to attend matches at the moment if you just don’t enjoy it any more, but I think deep down you will always have Charlton in your heart.
Can you imagine yourself ever not reading or posting on a Charlton football forum , and more importantly, do you think you could ever support another club . I sometimes also lose some enthusiasm, but whatever happens at the club , I know that I could never support another team , If I stopped going to Charlton , it would be because I have stopped going to football matches anywhere.
I hope that somehow , something will make you feel different to how you feel at the moment . Supporting a club like ours can be challenging at times , but I’ve come too far to turn back now , and no owner will ever stop me from going to support my team , Only I will decide that .

Strangely enough I find myself with RD on this matter; we are both not interested and neither of us will be there on Saturday, or any time in the foreseeable future. Why this endless interest in telling the world you are not interested ?
We got that a few weeks ago when you said you were no longer a Charlton supporter and hadn't cared about our results since Powell left almost 250 games ago.
What is the point of keep on coming back on here to say , 'hey guys, look its me, the Famous Lardiman, and I still don't care'...?
Tonaddick asked you " What are you trying to achieve other than getting replies on a message board?" but you didn't answer.
And here I am, feeding your narcissism still further. But we got it the first time and we haven't forgotten. You don't care. Voila. C'est ta vie.

But we got it the first time and we haven't forgotten. You don't care. Voila. C'est ta vie. You 'got' my comments about not being a Charlton supporter anymore by going looking for them on another forum. I did not post those comments here. Hardly narcissism on my part, more like you going out of your way to pick up something I had said elsewhere and actively bringing it to the attention of other members on this forum. If my comment on the other forum had been about ITTV then fair enough, but it was not. What I said was no secret, but you - who claim to be tired of me constantly talking about this - went to another forum looking for that post yourself, then referred to it back here (for at least the second time now) in your efforts to embarrass me. So which one of us is more guilty of this "endless interest" in telling the world I am not interested? I did not start this thread. I replied to something the moderator had posted, then replied to comments made by other members. If you think I am merely posting nonsense to provoke a few replies (being a WUM) then no problem. Another item on my list of things I am not interested in is your opinion of me.
This is a forum for fans to discuss anything to do with Charlton. I have simply been honest about something that I am not proud of, but have decided it is better to be honest about than carry on pretending it isn't so, to myself and others. I can't help it if you find that pathetic or self-indulgent or whatever. Neither can I prevent you from declaring on behalf of this whole forum that you are collectively bored of what I post ( "we got it the first time and we haven't forgotten" ), but at the same time going out looking for things I have posted on other forums. You seem to be rather more interested in my views than you claim to be.

I'm not a Christian like yourself, but I respect your belief system as it brings you comfort. If one of your church members was losing their faith, I'm sure you'd be the first one to offer support and some kind words.

Peoples experiences and feelings are their own and who are we to judge.
An away win with 300ish others is quite a thing to pep you up, I would heartily suggest you try it before you hang up your scarf Lardi.
The trick with Charlton, you need to have a bit of a sadistic head on your shoulders and take the fun when it comes. Maybe try and fashion some when it doesn't. It's quite a feeling having lost away in the bleakness of winter. The sadist in me smirks with a mixture pain, disbelief and schoolboy giggling amusement. Did that actually just happen? kind of thoughts.
I've taken up fishing again, being quite a good match angler in my youth and its got quite competitive. Again. I fished the whole of last winter, which was torrid - smashing ice to maybe get a few bites to win some dough. The one thing it did for me is make me appreciate the days I sat on this side of beautiful river in shorts and t shirt, even catching nothing. Well, almost. A different kind of beauty to the winter river.
50 Shades of Red.

There he goes again, folks! No idea what you said on another forum. All I know is that you claimed you aren't a Charlton fan any more and admitted that you haven't cared about our results since Chris Powell left... That's three times now you have told everybody on this forum what I have supposedly said. Where did I say it? Find the ITTV post where I said those things and quote it here, or stop telling lies about me. If you really have no idea what I said on other forums then you don't know what you're talking about, because I have not said any of the things you're accusing me of on this forum. You're just being dishonest again, as usual. Every time you lose an argument with somebody you start telling lies about them. Nothing you post about me has any credibility whatsoever, because you just make stuff up. I'm not going to waste any more time conversing with a liar.

Ok I think this needs to end here guys....
Many of us on here have different views, it’s our prerogative to have those and should feel free to discuss them even if we end up agreeing to disagree.
Lardiman (who I’ve never met) is a long time supporter of the club we also all support. I am amongst those who are disappointed he has decided not to go anymore but to me we should do our utmost as fellow fans to get his mojo back for watching games. I believe if he had a new group of people he can watch the game with who he can have a pint, bit of banter and watch the lads, he might find a new sense of excitement about the team and it’s chances to gain promotion. I’ve always found the atmosphere at away games really fun (except Coventry away last season) and there’s lots of singing and banter with the opposition which might be worth trying. At this time of year especially I think it’s important not to ridicule each other as we don’t know what’s happening in their personal life, but become this family club we once were and try help those who maybe just need some encouragement or support... Would be good if Paul could perhaps arrange an ITTV game where lardi could come and meet some of us and build new friendships within our fan base. Keep the faith @lardiman 👍🔴⚪️
