In terms of club stature, history and fanbase we are greeniejunior and by some way too. But do you really think that a French 2nd division player cares about a clubs history? Whoever offers the best deal will get him. We have a better fan base, granted. But brentford have a hell of a lot of potential and shouldn't be written off.

Chelsea struggle to fill the Bridge. Fulham in their shadow QPR struggle to put bums on seats I really don't see Brentford getting near the above

The point I'm making is we're not superior to them. We don't come anywhere close to filling our ground. Did anyone ever predict city being able to outmuscle united? Footballs a crazy game. Saying that I do think that Delort is our player, and would be happy with the signing

I have never seen him play, but is scoring twenty goals in the French second division that impressive, considering apart from a couple of teams the French top division is hardly renowned for its quality. Not a chance in hell Madrid would want him. Another player from a league that could be argued not as strong as ours. Lets not f*** about, go and get Craig Mackail-Smith from Brighton.

If it had to be yeah, but I would rather give Harriott another season, if he does not do it this season then get rid of him.

Would not want CMS, his main asset was his pace, which he has lost due to multiple long term injuries. Has not done much for brighton apart from being injured.

Think his current employer will need him as they are not prepared to pay big wages for new arrivals!

CMS is definitely on big wages, he was also signed for 3.5M which just shows how mental football is, when we payed one million less for Benty!!

A number 9 is coming in we know that much because his shirt is waiting. If it's Delort great, if not we'll get somebody else.

Good source has told me that Delort would be happy to join CAFC but the problem lis that the fee we are looking to pay is less than one other club is willing to pay. I don't know but I'm guessing that club is Boro.

I think this is the last year on his contract. Perhaps worth a gamble if the deal is reasonably priced. Personally I feel he is a shadow of his former self, which was not anything special IMO, he had one incredible season at the Posh, but that was in League 1 for a team that scored goals for fun. He is now on the wrong side of 30 and has struggled with injuries for the last two seasons. Under RD I could not see us making a signing like this.

Delort is in a London Hotel and could sign for us tomorrow once final negotiations on the fee have been ironed out.
Tours have accepted our bid, the player has agreed terms, all that remains now is the two clubs coming together on how the fee will be paid and over how long. Obviously it's undisclosed and will be in installments with add on's which include us getting to the Premier League.
It's almost over the line but the payment plan needs tweaking as Tours want a bigger down payment and smaller installments while we have offered the opposite. I may not be 100% on the money but it's along those lines anyway.

If it happens, let's hope he adds what we need

I forgot to add that there are a lot of rumours going around about him going to Leeds but as far as I know their priorities are Nile Ranger and Danny Graham.

Thank you for that post Reamsofverse. I hope you are correct. My understanding is that the fee is the stumbling block but there is one other club still very much in the hunt. This other club are willing to pay more than Charlton but in fairness I don't know if that is more up front as you suggest or more in total. The player is impressed by the CAFC set up but the end result is now at least as much in the hands of Tours as it is the player.

If it happens, let's hope he adds what we need I want it to happen Andy but despite being in London he wasn't at the Valley today as hoped. The first I heard of him possibly leaving Tours was a few weeks ago when Standard wanted him to replace Batshuayi but they had two bids turned down. He'd be a real coup for us as I think he could play at a higher level. I keep on getting told he'll sign but keep on reading about Leeds and Norwich so I went on their fans forums and all I can see on the Leeds one is talk of Ranger and Graham and on the Norwich Wrath of Barclay nothing at all except that they are interested in Standard's Belgian defender Laurent Ciman. Couple of Nobbers elsewhere saying I'm guessing. We'll see.

According to this article Leeds have pulled out and the player is destined for Atletico who don't want him!! Surely if he was going to Leeds he would have been at Elland Road yesterday watching them beat Dundee Utd 2-0 www.leeds.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=364366

Montpellier, Rennes, Lens, St Étienne, Schalke 04, Atlético Madrid. Et le grand gagnant pour Andy Delort serait Charlton. LOL. #Mercato
In English saying all these big clubs wanted him and he has joined Charlton

Have a suspicion he would simply be another PP, Dickson or Fleetwood. Either get someone who has played at a half decent league level or don't get anyone at all.
I distinctly remember another former Ligue 2 "star" that we signed. Here's a hint, his name rhymes with assassin. Last time I checked, he was playing in League 2!
The French leagues are poor.
