2 or three new players and we could be anything in this league.
Come on Roland, Big Bob has laid the foundations, back him up with a loan or two then finish the job in January.
You might not want promotion just yet but you may just get it if you speculate to accumulate.

Jeez that is a shadow of last season's squad and one that will not finish in the top 4 in Belgium this season.
I would take M'Poku and maybe Louis but the rest can stay where they are.

Don't know but was told today there is a scouting report on him.
He's got a few goals in French Ligue 2, may even be leading scorer.
I have a house in France and when I spent three weeks there in August, I saw several ligue 2 matches. I didn't see Havre and Le Bihan, but the games I did see were of depressingly poor quality. Reminded me of when CAFC were playing the likes of Wycombe and Exeter in our div three, tbh. I saw Dijon play against Nimes and they were just awful - yet they are currently top of ligue 2, which says it all.

You might not want promotion just yet but you may just get it if you speculate to accumulate. Roland, Katrien and Bob have laid the foundations. Sometimes opportunities arise when you have to say wtf and then pursue... That time is now! The Championship is not that tough, but buying a place finishing top two is an expensive business - Leicester, Cardiff, QPR etc. 75 points is acheivable for many clubs and my take is worst case scenario we will be 10th going into new year and the window... Teams, players, combinations, weak opponents only come along every so often and reading/posting here (away from the boring discussions) I have concluded that we have arrived at a crossroads! Much, much quicker than expected, and the top clubs mostly failed to win last weekend. Therefore we can both stay in the peleton and use our competitive advantage to sprint ahead early 2015. What I mean is: We have FFP headroom - we can spend cash and still stay compliant for the future We finally have an owner who can and will invest when it makes sense: Vetokele, new pitch, academy plans etc We have spare squad numbers so no player should feel rejected Most importantly we have a tried and trusted scouting set up that tracks and lands talent. The only thing we don't have under this new regime is a track record with loans from the Premier league - let's see what happens.

I disagree wholly mate on us having a tried and tested scouting set up, yes we pick up talented youngsters and mould them but that is coaching skills not scouting.

Alex Dyer is on record saying that RD & Co scout players via You Tube. It might possibly explain the ...err...hit and miss record to date

Just about every overseas manager who has ever come to manage in the Championship has said the same - it is just about the most competitive league in Europe. You have 24 teams who can and will beat each other on any given day.

Alex Dyer is on record saying that RD & Co scout players via You Tube. It might possibly explain the ...err...hit and miss record to date This was covered in the talk on the open day. Players were scouted by the network scouts and Phil Chapple and his team. They pooled information. If there was a yes from all and if Bob Peeters was happy they would proceed. I have got no objection to players being scouted via You Tube as long as that is followed up with watching the player live on a number of occasions.

Just about every overseas manager who has ever come to manage in the Championship has said the same - it is just about the most competitive league in Europe. You have 24 teams who can and will beat each other on any given day. It's competitive for sure...the changes so far at CAFC in just 8 months have been phenomenal... But the job is only half done... No need to patronise M.Duchatelet with "could do better"! It's actually very simple... As per transfermarkt a squad worth £10m is relegation fodder - that's where we were last season. You need a squad worth £20-25m to really compete in the top ten - clubs like Derby and Burnley have succeeded and kept costs down. Our squad is worth £16m which is one of the biggest improvements in the division at 57% So how will it rise by another £5-10? A) players get older and more experienced - cost free apart from wages B) players like Koc, Nego and Reza are loaned out - cost bring in some loan fees C) more talent comes out of the academy - cost free D) borrow from Liege and elsewhere - cost: loan fee + wages E) bring in free agents like Ben Haim, Bikey, Gudmundsson - cost free apart from wages F) buy players! Cost...? About €3m per player for what we need. Two more players purchased, a loan or two and the squad gaining experience will easily push the squad valuation over £20m Try taking off your league 1 goggles and look a championship game on sky compared to the Premier league...the Championship really isn't that good which is perhaps why when we are unbeaten fans moan about quality and needing more chances, better players etc. As posted before, the next stage is always the hardest because you haven't done it before... But I know CAFC will walk it because either I'm a mindless optimist (!) or because Meire, Peeters and Duchatelet are assessing what it will take (gap analysis) and Duchatelet has the scouting network and cash to make it happen. So Royston, it's not weird just shorthand for saying that the process for going from bottom six to mid table is about to be repeated. It might be slower and there will be controversy as some players (no names) who have helped us to this point are not invited on the next leg... But this time next year we will be watching a quality team winning a lot of games... Why will this happen? Well why would M.Duchatelet stop now?

The Championship is very tough with each game a battle. I agree and every single game is a draw or settled by a single goal. But it has cost just €3m in transfer fees for CAFC to raise it's game and we probably need another two quality players to turn draws into wins. Bloody expensive to try to buy 90 points a season but I don't think it would cost more than £5m to ensure 75+ points ~ that's 2 x €3m players That gives us a 25% shot at the premier league which is about 24.9% more than that which people thought we had over the summer. There is and never will be certainty at CAFC but Duchatelet, Meire and Peeters are enhancing our chances every month - and the bookies odds show this.

Well it is true to say that our recruitment is a cross between Asda and Lidl's with a bit of Waitrose thrown in. Plusses Vetokele, Ben Haim, Bikey, Buyens, Gudmonnsson, Henderson. Jury still out on Bulot. There have been quite a few duds like Thuram, KOC, Pistol Pete. Loic Nego Tucudean.Other players like Reza played a very small part and Adjeravic was decent but he had the stamina issues. What worries me is Peeters statement today that he would rather play the youngsters than get a loan in. We do not have a hold up centre forward on our books and we also need a box to box midfielder. To throw in too many youngsters is not good and you could end up with the same situation as Pigott, where his confidence is unduly affected.

It shouldn't be forgotten that the books are well and truly balanced for a few judicial purchases by the €25 to €30 mill banked by Roly from sales of SL players in the summer window

To throw in too many youngsters is not good and you could end up with the same situation as Pigott, where his confidence is unduly affected. The January loans and transfers have come and gone very quickly. Only Ajdarevic might qualify as a player who could help us push on but Peeters ruled him out upon arriving at the Valley. I think a head coach can either talk up the squad or play the field asking for more players. Everyone knows this squad might improve with age and experience AND that a couple more might help it on. Just as it should be we shouldn't know until a player signs up but I wouldn't be surprised if the club are already looking. As the saying goes, second is nowhere - in our case 7th is nowhere! Well it is the best finish since 2007 but...
