Could anyone recommend an "money saving" chain hotel near the ground? Also somewhere close where I and the better half can do a bit of shopping pre-match.
Tom (Swans fan).

Hi Tom this board is relatively new and not as free flowing as the Swans site I have just advertised us on but I am sure that you will get some genuine answers over the next couple of days mate. My own input is the one I have stayed at a few times. It is over the road from the O2 Arena (formely the Millenium Dome) and also North Greenwich Station where you can hop on a tube and be in the centre of London in no time. www.allinlondon.co.uk/stayinfo/stay-details.php?show=104789

Try the Ibis Hotel in Greenwich. Excellent location, as well as being only a couple of miles or so from Charlton.

i don't know about 'money saving chain' hotels but... Ideal for away fans visiting as it is the away fans pub... www.antigallicanhotel.comCouldn't get much closer to the ground without buying a flat! Shopping - either way along the main road are shopping areas - clothes, food, furniture etc. Most of the big chains are represented in one direction or the other. Enjoy!

Good god estuary there's no comparison with shopping in and around Charlton and Greenwich. Do they really want to go to the big chains in a concrete jungle car park, surely they have that where they live, no, my guess is they'd want something different with small interesting shops plus the antiques/craft/food markets and Greenwich (together with Blackheath) meets that criteria and it's all right outside the front door of The Ibis.

It all depends on the time available to them. The options are there plus, as you say, Greenwich and Blackheath (or even Bluewater if they have the transport!). I'd stay in the pub and forget the shopping personally! £60 for a double ensuite room ain't bad - and you get a discount on the drinks!
