yeah, decent price. I'd still have Yassin as first choice, but for £0.5m we could do a lot worse.

Why are we buying players to double up in every position yet there is still no sign of what we really need which is at least 3 midfielders.
It may only be 500,000 which is worth a punt but come on Pardew wake up and concentrate on the areas where we really need new players.
As for Halford I really do put him in the Moo2 and Youga bracket where all three are good going forward but are suspect at defending.

Agree that Pardew needs to concentrate on mid-fielders, but as he advocates the long ball game which cuts out the necessity of a mid field, he's probably doesn't even know what a mid field is or what part it plays in the game, as witnessed by all of us last season.

Reams - How do you know he's not looking for CM positions? Just because he is taking up the option of signing a RB / CB / GK / CF doesn't mean he isn't doing work elsewhere. I sometimes feel that people leave their rationale behind them when dealing with CAFC issues.
If we were to miss out on a player for another position just because he refused to look at anyone else before signing a CM then he be jumped on for not being able to do two things at once...........

Dan I happen to think that we need 2 good full backs as im not convinced by Moo2 and Youga however I have more faith in them than I do any of the midfielders, Shelvey apart as I have yet to see him play.
My point is we all know that we are strapped for cash and the £500,000 for Halford should be spent or put towards a priority signing first and foremost as our midfield in my opinion is one of the weakest in the division, they all have the same attributes none of them have a cutting edge or are door openers on the pitch.
Once we have our desperately weak area sorted out, then we can go and reinforce other positions with what cash is left.
If we sign Halford and retain Iwelumo I think we all know what's coming next season and I for one won't be paying to watch a tactic that was cringeing to watch last year but in saying that it if Pardew is insistent on playing it at least get a target man with at least some idea ie: Liam Dickinsen in Iwelumo out, never mind Fleetwood he won't cut the mustard at this level.

We need a good right back..Moo2 is not ready for a full season and Halford can play a number of positions not just right back

First page of "Newsnow" advises that Charlton expected to sign Fleetwood in a couple of days although Bent returned, also that Halford will not be signed with Moo2 being right back first choice,
Perhaps Halford would be loaned again and used across the back or in mid-field.

If Pardew is intent on signing him I prefer the loan option rather than spending cash as although he is capable of doing a job I do not think he is a player who has much improvement in him.
That leaves four loan deals available which I just hope are not used to replace sold players, you just don't get back the the same commitment level, not that there was much of that on show last season anyway.

i think you can get back the same commitment level if the player is brought in at the start of the season (and of course if they are naturally committed professionals). A couple of well used season-long loan deals could change our season, in the same way that Fraizer Campbell and Ben Foster had an effect on Hull and Watford repectively.
