My dad played in a Charity Golf Day with Mervyn Day a few months back, and he said a similar thing. "He just didn't want to get hurt", was the description i think he used.

not being funny but i didnt see many times when AC or MD shouted at Romm to move up the pitch....very much more being the other way and staying back to defend. Running joke at the time around us was that he was our most well known full back ever!

Dennis was ok when he had really good players around him. i.e when we had Smertin, Murphy, Ambrose. The team was going places but it fell all apart sadly.

No one of the most frustracting players to watch EVER.
I seen some amazing runs down the wing with players flooding down the pitch just to see him bottle a tackle before crossing
