I realised something today and that is PP plays 4-5-1 for various reasons and one of them is because it finds a place for Shelvey in the side, he was disappointing today and to me lazinesss is creeping in.
Semedo's absence meant that the entire midfield had to give an extra 10%, Jonjo didn't.

Shelvey, always wanting the ball, taking all the free kicks appears to be saying "I'm the best player, give me the ball" when in reality he's running around like a headless chicken to the detrement of the team.

i've been saying this for a few weeks now, but i don't think it's entirely his fault.
Reams, i think you're right about the 4-5-1 being used to incorporate him, and Parky mentioned in the Q&A that he's been given a Gerrard-like license to roam behind the front man.
I don't think the problem is arrogance or lack of effort, more that he's far far too inexperienced to play that role. Much of the running he does is wasted, with him popping up in front of the back four, on the left, right, etc. I'd rather see him play solely in the middle, just off the front man, rarely tracking back past half-way and rarely pulling out wide. With a little more discipline in his positioning, he can still threaten.
I'd actually had a few quid on him scoring first, so until our first goal went in i was watching him closely and to my frustration he was rarely ever anywhere near the box when we were in a threatening position, which is exactly where he should be if he's playing in the hole

I agree and don't get me wrong im not criticising him here I just don't think that we should be sacrificing a second striker for a player who is picked on his ability when he doesn't always use it.
There was passage of play in the second half when he was one against one with the last defender yet he didn't even work the keeper, he dragged it wide and off target having snatched at the chance where if he's have run at him he may have won a penalty or a corner at least.
I think Jonjo would be much more effective as the furthest midfielder foraward picking up the pieces off two strikers but you would then have to drop either Semedo or Racon which is a no no.
This is what concerns me about PP's thinking at the moment, he'll always find a place for JJ in the side which iI think is most definitely putting off getting a new striker and left winger in.

Its simple we should not be playing 4-5-1 at home to Exeter.....
Take out a mid player and put in a striker at home..and lets get these games won not like yesterday hanging on by our fingernails

Agre to some extent but can we afford to play with two strikera at the moment because if one gets injured the only other one we will have will be Tuna, a ridiculous state of affairs for a side second in the table.

sorry for not posting for a long time guys i was on holiday in china and australia
anywho, i agree with valleyviper, he is a very talented player however he needs to understand that his role in the game is not always to be in front of the person with the ball but to use the vision that he most definitely has and create those wonder goals that are remembered 50years on.

Parky's given him a free role and he buzzes around. Perhaps yesterday was not his best performance but he still produced some tricks.
In my view the problems we had yesterday, similar to those against Norwich was a tendency to defend too deeply. That mean't that Burton as the lone striker had an almost impossible job to hold the ball as midfielders just weren't getting up to him. People criticise JJ but I thought Racon was guilty of over playing when he had the ball. Both Sam and Bailey needed treatment during the week so overall I don't think we had the energy of some games. I certainly wouldn't single out Shelvey.
