Due to the extreme heat and a slight hangover, i decided to venture down into the concourse for a bottle of lucozade (or similar lightly chilled refreshment) during half time, leaving on this epic journey a mere 30 seconds after the whistle had blown.
As is always the way, i chose the shortest queue, and counted a total of 9 paying customers in front of me. As 10 minutes went by, i noticed i had barely moved from my spot, and the 9 paying customers had only decreased to 7, despite all the requests being for a pint (ready poured) or a burger (ready cooked). I heard the players emerging from the tunnel, but persisted with my epic quest, largely as a matter of principle.
Eventually, a full 9 minutes into the second half, i was served my bottle of luke-warm water (they had ran out of lucozade and coke) for the princely sum of £1.65.
Now, understaffing was not the problem here. There were six tills staffed by six people, with a further two there to cook chips, spit in burgers, etc. The problem here was a fucking stupid div kids employed to work behind the counter. Never have i seen anyone take so long to work a till or fetch a bottle of drink. Unbelievable.
I regularly read about how this country is going down the crapper - people attribute it mainly to the government, immigration, greedy bankers, etc, but the real reason is too many stupid English kids who can't even serve 9 people in under 20 minutes.
When have you ever gone into an Indian-run corner shop and waited for 20 minutes?! Never - because they're not, broadly speaking, braindead.
Instead of GCSEs, youngsters should be sent to the Valley, trained on the till, then made to serve 20 people in 5 minutes. If they can't do it, they're of no further use to society.
That was not a rant
