PHIL Parkinson has admitted the on-going takeover saga is having an impact on his future transfer plans.
The Addicks have made a perfect start to life in League One with three straight wins, but the manager is the first to accept his squad will need strengthening if they are to sustain a serious promotion bid.
But the uncertainty over whether new owners will be installed or not has so far prevented Parkinson wheeling and dealing as he would have liked and the boss is getting slightly anxious as the transfer deadline looms.
He said: “We are doing well at the moment but that doesn’t hide the fact that we need the squad to be improved.
“I’ve just been waiting patiently like everybody to be in a position where we can freshen things up.
“Now hopefully we get into that position and we can see some movement.
“It is for the chairman and the board to comment on the takeover, I’m just trying to focus on the team and preparing the team as best I can for each game.
“However, also I have got one eye on that clock ticking towards the end of the window.”
Parkinson is only too aware of all the rumours going around about the takeover, but says it isn’t something he has discussed in any great detail with the club’s hierarchy.
He said: “I’ve got an idea but I’m trying to stay out of it if I’m being honest with you. I think it is the best way for myself and the players to keep away from it.
“I’ve got an idea but it is down to the board and it is their business.
“I speak to the chairman about the team and how things are going at the training ground, but not really in depth about anything else.”
Proposed transfers involving Andy Gray and Chris Dickson have been put on hold until the takeover issue is finally resolved.
Parkinson confirmed there have been no further developments on Dickson’s switch to Gillingham or Gray’s potential move to Barnsley in the past week, but added in Gray’s case it wasn’t exactly a major priority at the moment.
He added: “Unfortunately with the Barnsley situation we’ve kept everybody informed as best we can, but there are bigger issues going on at the club at the moment than Andy Gray’s move to Barnsley.
“It is a decision which is out of my hands and unfortunately I can’t throw any more light on it than that.”
