Congratulations to him. I thought this was simply a question of time. Also, adds to our roster of players we can use to postpone games during international breaks!

I am going to put this question out there….With all the comparisons being made about Coventry and Dobson and I have read some supporters saying Coventry isn’t fit to lace Dobson’s boots…..…In all honesty if he were Irish do you think Dobson would get called up for the Irish national team………and if a championship side came looking for a holding style midfielder out of the two who would they go for Coventry or Dobson…..🤔🤔🤔

I think my biggest disappointment in recent times is Conor Coventry. I think he has the pedigree to be a decent player but he’s…… not!

Ditch the holding midfielder whether it’s/was Coventry or Dobson. Only to be used if we are protecting a 2 goal cushion.
Playing a holding midfielder suggests to me that you have no faith in your defence.

Think Taylor offers more but either way we shouldn't be having to play both of them in the team at the same time.

Jones is playing both only because Anderson is still learning the game and is not ready yet for regular first team football……and Docherty and Campbell have both been pretty piss poor…….I bet Jones just cannot believe what he has got out of his captain so far this season….😳…and for all the talk that Campbell would tackle is granny for the ball I haven’t seen much evidence of this….only opposition players ghosting past him………the fella just doesn’t look fit to me…..So there are his options with Berry who only really influences games coming off the bench……What a situation to be in with a top 4 budget……🤔🤔🤔🤔

If our game versus Peterboro had been going ahead, would Ireland still have been allowed to call him up at such a late stage? Seems pretty unfair to us if so...

Not really, would of been one less player to pass it backwards...

Don’t know is the answer. Would clearly be very controversial if this could happen.

England when they were at their best had two holding midfielders in Rice and Phillips which allowed every other offensive player to get creative knowing we had that defensive shield…..If you don’t concede goals you only need one yourself to win games of football…. Coventry isn’t the issue as to why we are conceding and looking flacky at the back at present….it was our inability to recruit that other quality CB that was always required in the summer…..instead it looked like the top 4 budget only allowed an unfit and unsuitable to play in a flat back four Potts to join us….

He only has pass back or sideways in his locker. Creates pressure on defence and usually ball comes straight back. A decent CM will move the ball a few feet with little risk and change angles to pads to players in advanced positions. He just gets shot

He just gets shot Well he certainly is considered marmite within the Charlton fan base……..West Ham rated him pretty highly, now called up for the Irish international squad so they must watch him and rate him……reading across the CAFC forums some rate him and some don’t…..all about opinions Not sure how he creates pressure for the defence when all they do is hoof it 60 yards forwards when under no real pressure regardless of when he is involved or not.……Yep he could certainly take more risks in trying more forward passes but maybe he would rather recycle the ball and keep possession or maybe Jones is asking him to do this, who knows….. I watch him look up,see very little movement in space ahead and then play the percentages ball mainly sideways…..Generally though he rarely gives the away much in the 90 odd minutes…..I must admit incorrectly that I really thought in the summer we were going to bring in a couple of quality gems in the middle of the park to compliment Coventry……but that didn’t happen…… But my comment was rather that our current defensive frailties are not really down to him, he reads the game defensively pretty well and puts in his tackles and interceptions……We were defending pretty well with Jones in that flat back four until he got injured, we just didn’t recruit another quality CB in the summer when we were crying out for one….which is biting us on the arse at present

What you say about Coventry is interesting because we've all seen him play passes forwards, just not recently! As you state, he looks up, but where's the movement? What is it that Nathan Jones is trying to achieve in midfield? Now is the time to discuss this as the club have ample opportunity to correct things in the January window. They've just launched the 1/2 ST offer covering 14 games, so they need to consider how to improve our approach. If Coventry isn't part of an improved midfield then that raises questions at the core of strategy and recruitment.
