Ridiculous ban so early in the season

As I mentioned in the match thread, surely this means we see Taylor play. Seems odd we haven’t seen him at all though. He can’t be match fit.

I doubt Taylor would have played the full game against Cambridge (well, 88 minutes) if he wasn't already match fit. Get the feeling NJ will only use him when Coventry isn't available. Perhaps that was what NJ meant last week when he said Taylor was "very, very close" to featuring in the league. He wasn't referring to Taylor's fitness or form but to Coventry's accumulation of yellow cards!

TT has to start now.
If he doesn't then it's got personal.

He can play 88/90 minutes as he has shown, but you only get match fitness during games. He hasn’t had games and therefore can’t be match fit. Match fitness for me is not about lasting 90 minutes. It’s about the speed in decision making, the concentration levels throughout the game, your alertness during the game, even your first touch in high pressure moments at the end of 90 minute for football, etc. You can’t get that from a one-off appearance.

Might have been handy to let him get some minutes in other games, rather than a run out in the Cambridge match and nothing before or after. Not really the best way to keep the squad up to speed.

He hasn’t had games and therefore can’t be match fit. Ideally you wouldn't want to play someone who isn't match fit. But if you only get match fit by playing games then, er... hang on... how would... erm... This reminds me of the BBC's approach to pitching TV shows. I've worked in TV for 30 years and the only major broadcaster I've never sold a show to is the BBC. The reason? The BBC will only consider shows (ie only allow access to their pitching system) from companies they have already bought a show off in the past three years. WTF! Consider that Catch 22. Then fear for Terry Taylor trapped in the same quandary/vortex as my potential BBC shows. He can't play a game as he isn't match fit. He can't get match fit as he can't play games. Therefore he will never play football again. Poor Terry Taylor.

My point was why hasn’t Nathan played him in order to be able to provide adequate cover when needed. Not that he can’t play him ever as he isn’t match fit, which you know it’s ridiculous yet you post it anyway. It increases the chances he’ll not perform well due to his lack of match fitness. Why hasn’t he got minutes with u21’s when he hasn’t featured in the squads? Why hasn’t he been a sub to let Coventry rest occasionally? Thats my point. Personally I don’t think he’ll start next game. I feel like Nathan is planning to play Doc or someone else for Coventry and Taylor will only make it onto the bench.

My immediate reaction when Coventry was booked on Saturday was that he was a bit unlucky. I get that referees need to guard against time wasting, but I didn’t think we’d been doing that. Nor did I think Coventry deliberately delayed taking the free kick. It looked more like indecisiveness than anything else. Anyway, it is what it is.
I like Terry Taylor, but I’m not sure he’s Jones’ type of player. He perhaps isn’t aggressive enough or positive enough. I hope he gets the chance against Stockport, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t. If we revert to 3-5-2, it’s possible the three in midfield will be Docherty, A Campbell and Anderson, with Docherty as pivot. If it’s 4-4-2 and a box midfield then Docherty, A Campbell, Berry and Anderson is an option.
We’ll see. I think part of the problem for Taylor is that he’s not an obvious option to use from the bench. That makes it very tough for him to get any kind of foothold. I’d be very surprised if we don’t look to sell him in January.
Shame it’s not worked out for him.
PS I’m reluctant to believe Jones has any kind of agenda, favourites or players he dislikes because that kind of thinking can become a bit of a slippery slope. However, he’s clearly not done Taylor any favours. I felt it was bizarre when he was absent in our last game last season at Wycombe, especially when Jones gave Fiorini 45 minutes. I still think we may have been a bit indecisive in the summer in not seeking to move players on the moment the window opened. Were there really no takers for Taylor, on any terms?

I doubt anyone can second guess what Jones will do to replace Coventry, especially after he has dropped two of our best players out of the starting line ups recently but Taylor at the bottom of the diamond would be my choice but I can see us going back to 3-5-2 with either Gillesphey or Potts coming back in….. I just don’t think Jones rates him, he was MOM against Cambridge when Anderson had a shocker yet dropped Taylor out.and kept Anderson in the side for the next game

I don't think any of us can second guess the thinking of a nutter like Jones on any issue tbh. My point was that a MOTM performance for 88 minutes in a competitive mixed senior/U21s game (as the mickey mouse trophy is) is as good or better an indication of match fitness than a couple of U21 games or late substitution L1 appearances would be. I assume U21 games go ahead on international weekends, so Taylor can always play in our game against Ipswich at the weekend if he needs a match fitness 'top-up' pre Stockport. As far as I'm concerned Taylor is match fit. NJ just doesn't like him (maybe TT shouted 'Jesus Christ' after stubbing his toe in training or something). Hopefully he hates him enough to at least start playing him in the hope of shop windowing him out of the door in January?

That’s the second or third time you’ve made some snide remark about his faith. Any chance you could do me a good turn and drop it out? But yeah I think if we don’t see Taylor for the Stockport game it’s safe to say there’s something more to it. I suppose some managers just don’t fancy certain players, seems a shame though.

Apologies if you thought my comment was snide. It was about NJ wearing his faith on his sleeve in an increasingly secular world. If you thought I was being anti-Christian it truly wasn't meant that way. Whilst currently athiest, I have absolute respect for individuals (less so countries or companies) committed to any faith. I do also know my Bible btw. Went to Church, Sunday School, Youth Club etc until I got into watching football instead aged 15/16. FWIW my grandad was the vicar of a Welsh language Congregational Church in Wrexham. Anyway, people seem to be getting angry about stuff I'm posting on this thread, so I will step away until we find out if Taylor is in the line-up vs Stockport or not. Sorry for any offence perceived (honestly not intended)

That is where you get your players match fit then those that are not up to speed play reserve (U21 or U23) games, cup games, and then get minutes from the bench. However as Mundell has said Taylor's position, and lack of versatility, means that he doesn't get on the bench, so he doesn't get ten or fifteen minutes here and there. I don't think that NJ rates him and, to be fair, I haven't, really, seen him do much in the fourteen months he's been with us. On the odd occasion that he's played a league game I've, actually, been underwhelmed. I think he was one of the players that we were looking to move on this summer and I think he will be one of those that Methven was talking about when he said that the squad is too big. We, genuinely, have other options that play where he does and I think Taylor us likely to easier to find a new home for.

Kanu and Ahedme potentially injured leaves us with TC, Godden, Chuks and Leaburn.
Casey didnt play for U21s, injured or a place on the bench on Saturday? Personally I think Mbick is better suited
