I think Reams touched on this but I think we’re missing a Claus Jenson, Mark Kinsella type of player.
Don’t get me wrong, the team looks so much better in comparison to last season but think we’re missing the above.

Been saying it since last season too. I'm bored of watching defensive midfielders all looking like each other doing the same think when we are crying out for a box to box player.
That pass a cross the goal today from Gassan was crying out for somebody to arrive late and get on the end of it.
I don'ty like Nathan's brand of football at all. Five goals in five games tells you all you need to know.

A Kinsella, Parker or Gallagher simply isn't going to play at this level although we were very fortunate to sign Cullen on loan six years ago.
Coventry has been playing well all season as a six but we all know that things are not fully joined up when it comes to our attacking threat.
The answer is that Jones and the rest need to coach improvements, the players get used to each other, and the system... and the Club might go shopping in January?
Nobody is saying we're the finished article, but we have 10 points from five. With just three goals conceded, and two of those were worldies today and last week.
We aren't candidates for automatic promotion, but we've travelled from 19th place at the end of January to perhaps the 10th best side last May. Hard to place where we are today as we have one of the best defences but very weak attacking threat.
As posted before, let's see where we are after ten games, AND how we look once Edwards and Leaburn are available.

Why waste time trying to coach defensive midfielders into being more advanced up the pitch. Three of those that we have don't get in the side so why are they here? Surely we would have been better served bringing in at least two attacking midfielders instead. I'm behind NJ 100% but the recruitemnt, or lack of in certain areas is questionable. I banged the Keillor-Dunne all summer and got told he's too weak which is utter bollocks.

Bang on, why have five midfielders with the same attributes and try to teach them to do a different job when you could have bought a ready made one/two in the first place.

Now that the window has shut, the Club management has no choice but to manage the resources we have on the books. That's to say develop the young talent, the system AND deliver 27 points from 18 games such that we're sixth on New Year's Eve! There hasn't been an open chequebook this summer but once we all see how we look with Leaburn and Edwards available, one would hope that there's a serious attempt to address obvious issues. NJ always looks to exit a window stronger than when we entered. Ideally strong enough to make it to the play-offs and win a trip to Wembley! As for the late recruits, we might speculate around NJ's words about culture and attitude. In other words he wants senior professionals around that he's worked with before whom he trusts to assist in focus and delivery. For sure we want development and delivery on the pitch, but we should recognise that we've had a number of owner/executives who have preferred their own appointments and decisions. Fans have seen two promotions and four relegations since 2006. Sparrows Lane has seen countless managers, coaches and analysts during that period. In summary I'd wait a few games to see where we really are, and then discuss how we can improve / what we need in the next window. Let's not expect perfection, just continuous improvement!

You can't go through a season playing the same way. There will be times when we will have to mix it up a bit. I really do thing that not signing a CAM so we can do that will be our undoing.

Jones main job was to stop the goals going in and making us difficult to beat .. doing that we have seen so many times the other end of the pitch suffers a little .. but it had to be done we could not conceded two goals a game and expect to get top 6 … and so far we have been excellent as a team in our defensive work starting with Ahadme up top … 352 is a defensive formation key players are your wing backs they are the ones who have to supply the crosses and get forward yesterday Small had a stinker and althrough Ramsey played well can’t remember to many crosses coming in from that side that’s where the issue is .. with this system if we changed to 433 at home will we start to concede goals again? …. We miss Edwards he is one that can supply crosses ..
It’s a working progress … but 1 defeat in 5 which was a difficult start on paper would say we are on the right course

If Aneke could start a game and up his overall work rate / defensive work I would have him At number 10 at home not away .. that’s where he made his name at MK Dons

There is clearly something missing because we’re simply not creating enough chances and unless that changes we’re going nowhere.
I’m not sure that this would be solved by signing a different type of player though. It seems to me that any assessment of where we’re at has to start with the way Jones is trying to play. I suspect that we’d all agree it’s not attractive to watch and that, at times, it’s going to look as if our opponents are playing a lot more football than we are.
The real question though is whether Jones can make it work. Our Xg against is amongst the best in League One, if not the best (Jones himself said this in his post match interview), and our back six (i.e. the back five plus Coventry) is beginning to look very good. Both wing backs have lots of potential and should get better, while Coventry is really growing into his role at pivot.
The issue, of course, is with the front four. The seven players who appeared in those positions yesterday all offered something, but it simply wasn’t joined up. It’s possible they’re struggling to adjust to Jones’s playing style - the demand to get the ball forwards quickly and to go long. I felt Jones was more open about this problem in his post match interview yesterday than he’d previously been. He knows it’s not working and that, at key moments, we need more composure and better decision making.
Only time will tell whether Jones and his players will be able to deliver this further development of the game plan. If they can we’re likely in for a good season. If not, it’s going to be another long slog where the agricultural nature of Jones’s football will come in for increasing criticism.
