Not seen anyone else suggest this, so I will.
I reckon the month of October will define our season.
It’s the first month with the maximum of six league games (August and September each only have four).
Our three home league games in October are against Stockport, Wrexham and Birmingham (ie the current top three).
The above (especially with home advantage) are thus all proverbial six-pointers if we are serious in challenging for top six.
October is also the month when Miles Leaburn (recovered from injury) and Kaheim Dixon (if a few U21 games add him into the mix) should become available for the first team.
Not only does the above hugely improve our striking options, but also perhaps gives (if he’s not too set in his ways to consider them) NJ options like playing Godden in a CAM/10 role.
Either way, I think by the end of October we will know whether we’re going to be challengers, strugglers or mid-table.
For me September (which apparently starts today) is all about just trying to stay in the top 8/9.
It’s in October that shit gets real!

I've come to terms with the fact that we're not going to challenge for a top six spot this year

I think it is too early to write off the season just yet . 9 points out of 12 is not too shabby , but yesterday was a reality check . Too many players underperformed , it happens , and looking back a draw would probably have been fair . What disappointed me was we didn’t get another couple of quality signings to really challenge for a promotion spot . Of course we might be looking at the free agent market but time will tell . Nathan Jones was obviously pissed off with the performance and I trust him to sort things out for Saturday .

Wrexham will go up. They have drawn at Bolton, won at Peterborough and beating Reading and Wycombe.
There are not many sides better than them in L1. Their squad to ours is liike chalk and cheese.
Im in America for the Breeders Cup in October, booked well before the fixtures came out.
We play them that same day and I have to say, the further away from the Valley, and Wrexham that day, the better.
They will come and show us how to play football and how to sign players that actually look like good footballers.
Kanu v Mullin!!
TC V Marriott!!!!
Don't even get me started on our midfield!
