Calm down a bit from yesterday. Despite some of his deficiencies as a striker, we cannot blame Ahadme for yesterday's poor performance. Coventry, I think, plays the 6 role very well; his job isn't to run forward with the ball but to sit back, protect the back three, and make simple passes to his teammates. However, just throwing it out there, apart from Docherty's goal against Bolton, what else does he contribute? Ahadme was bought as a striker. What else is he supposed to be in a number 9 shirt ? Perhaps he is isolated. In that case what is the pointvof having players who can't run with the ball? That is one aspect if the game that football players are expected to do. Run with the bleedin' ball. The truth is it see.s we have got rid of Dobson , who ran about a lot and tackled and replaced him with at least 2 more who can only do the same. I once saw an old guy drafted into a Charlton team that was rooted at the bottom of the table. He was 35 or 36. He changed the team insidec15 minutes and saved the club. My question is , are we one guy or so short, say Leaburn or are we lacking everywhere it matters when getting up the pitch. Because at the moment it isn't easy to watch. For our wingbacks to truly be effective, we need pace from at least one or two midfielders in the middle, which would create the space for them to push forward. The issue, though, is we lack a midfielder who can turn quickly and drive the ball up the pitch, either to support Ahadme or get it out wide to the wingbacks. While we’ve defended well at times, we’re far too easy to defend against, often resorting to hopeful long balls to the strikers. At present—and it could change—Docherty is a downgrade on George Dobson. People keep talking about this being a great start to the season, and in terms of points, it is. But over the course of a full season, this approach won’t be sustainable. At best, I see us finishing mid-table. |
