Dear all, I am on the committee for East Kent Addicks and below are the details for our next meeting, which is free to attend.
We are pleased to announce that our Players Q&A Meeting on Monday 23rd September 2024 our special guests have now been confirmed.
KAYNE RAMSEY and MATT GODDEN have kindly agreed to attend.
Just to confirm, this will be held at our usual venue : The Railway Club, Beaver Road, Ashford, Kent, TN23 7RR
Meeting will commence at 7pm till 9pm
We will be running a CAFC related raffle, with a signed shirt as first Prize. Proceeds from the raffle help fund the cost of hiring the hall for the evening.
There will be a bar available on the night (no food)
If anyone needs more information please PM me. It is always a good night. Tracey Leaburn often comes with the players and she is a mine of information. Unfortunately I am on holiday - gutted to miss this one.

But a few points passed to me by the chairman:
Asked about what they want to do after football - Matt Godden has qualified as a mortgage advisor, not going to pursue a career in football. As Godden is a local boy it was a no brainer signing. Kayne wants to help youngsters, maybe even become an agent.
Both said hardest player they played against was Bruno Fernández
They room on their own
Kayne wants to play in the Premiership, and decided to knuckle down earlier in his career.
Question was asked about Mitchell .. was he dropped ? Did he have a fall out with the manager ? Both said no fallout, Gaffer felt playing REG there he could bring the ball out to midfield, and help there when needed. Didn't work and realised he had made an error in his decision.
I understand that it was an excellent evening, but it is always a struggle to get Charlton fans out on a Monday night, so I will continue to publicise on here. Next one is likely to be early next year, when I hope I can feedback directly.

I think this was an obvious thing to try at some point. I hope Jones doesn’t learn the wrong lesson though. The fact we lost the game doesn’t necessarily mean that it was the wrong decision. It’s obviously a bit more complicated than that and I’d be interested in Jones’s explanation for why it didn’t work. Does he think we suffered defensively (the fact we conceded two goals isn’t proof of that) or is that REG didn’t actually manage to step forward in the way intended? We’ve simply got to improve in possession so my guess is that we’ll see experiments like this again.

It just went long to no target.

We’ve simply got to improve in possession so my guess is that we’ll see experiments like this again. Nobody brought the ball out though. Or even used midfield for 45 minutes. It just went long to no target. The thing is many (by no means all) supporters blamed the goal we conceded against Rotherham, on Jones losing the ball, while running out with it from defence! (Not sure if you can be blamed, if the shot is a 25 yard screamer!) On the back of that, after a very good game against Cambridge (including an assist) in the BSM trophy, it is really no surprise that that NJ gave REG the nod. Personally, I hope NJ doesn't have a knee-jerk reaction, and ditches the idea. Partnerships take time to develop, so, I'd like to see it tried again. I don't think REG had a bad game, it was the midfield (other than the, as usual, excellent Coventry) that had a stinker. REG moving forward with the ball, adding to the midfield, may allow one of the other midfielders to push forward more. (Or, if Berry is playing, take some of the defensive strain off the rest of the midfield). I'm a fan of Alex Mitchell, but he's more the 'old fashioned' blood-and-guts CBs. Interestingly, and here's a thought for you all, perhaps if Zach Mitchell hadn't been injured in the same BSM game, maybe HE would be the one to have been selected? Best of both worlds, I think. More powerful than REG, and more comfortable on the ball than his namesake? Probably, a better passer than both of them!

Still no confirmed update from the club on Ramsay…..was the question asked by Terry in the post match interview? Usually means bad news when they don't show his answers on the club socials. I imagine the questions were asked. Expect it'll be in an SLP article or two today

I imagine the questions were asked. Expect it'll be in an SLP article or two today Think we need to factor in that the player as well as mgt need to get their heads around the situation first. Same with Jones. Assuming they're both out for a couple of months this is a bump in the road when it comes to the bigger picture. The rest of the lads need to soldier on as we await their return... And perhaps a couple of additions in January too?! Turns out that we're on the same points as we were six years ago. Who can forget the injuries that time which were mostly midfield?

Six years ago, you say? Thank goodness we have a Lyle Taylor, Kristian Bielek, Josh Cullen, Joe Aribo, Anfernee Dijksteel, Naby Sarr, Patrick Bauer and a Darren Pratley in our squad then eh? Phew! On a serious note, I think that most, if not all, of those players would get into the first 11 in front of the squad members we have today. Maybe Ramsey would keep Dijksteel out, but I'm not so sure. The 2018/19 squad also had Jason Pearce, Karlan Grant and Chris Solly as bit part players - all of whom I would expect to be in the first eleven this season if we had them now.

Godden maybe unfairly at times seems to come in for criticism that he doesn’t get involved in the game enough………but 6 goals in 14 appearances is not too shabby a start to his season……

Watching him live, he works tirelessly off the ball. Looks our most natural striker.
