Why is Coventry taking them as literally every single one he takes goes straight to the opposing goalkeeper?

We’ve never been that great at set pieces , but think we’ve reached an all time low , strange as we now have a set piece coach .

Have to agree … his delivery is far too ‘floaty’ and an invitation for the keeper to make an easy catch.
We need for the ball to be whipped in hard and flat and if Coventry can’t deliver then find an alternative.

For the first time in our history (afaik) we now have a dedicated Set-Piece Coach, as outlined by Andy Scott on the official site a few days ago. So all is well!

So all is well! but if the set piece coach was found and appointed by Scott then it is completely understandable why our set pieces are at an all time low.

Why is Coventry taking them as literally every single one he takes goes straight to the opposing goalkeeper? Good question. Coventry has arguably been our best player in open play so far this season, but his set pieces are a dogs dinner.

Except the Manager and Performance Director plus much of the squad was found and appointed by the Technical Director. Or at least scouts working to Scott sourced the players. Given how poor our set pieces have been there appears to have been a case to recruit a Championship level expert, or some form of sports consultancy to address this core weakness. Instead they've chosen to recruit from within the club.

I do find it incredible that a team of professional footballers are incapable of taking a decent corner between the lot of them, you don't need a separate set piece coach for that it is basic football.

No idea of stats but I'd guess most sides score between a quarter and a third of goals from set-pieces. So we are seriously deficient.
Surely picking Taylor over so far mediocre Docherty or Berry must increase our chances of scoring? His dead ball kicks seem better than most.
Or perhaps one of our forwards might have a decent delivery, rather than standing in the box watching the ball go down the keepers throat.
And why play TC and not leave him up the pitch for their corners. He will take two defenders out of the scrum.
