www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2009/aug/16/david-james-portsmouth-takeover-financesTalking about the worry of Administration and where's £80m from the sale of players in last 12 months gone. Referring to clubs living beyond their means - klang! klang! klang! we now know all about that - and the potential sacking of staff whose wages compare to nothing against that of the players at the club! The Pompey players have been able to focus on the first match etc which has kept them going!! Oh perleeze. Jeez try telling that to someone just thrown out of job/house etc who hasn't been earning £50k upwards week in and week out!! They do live on another planet these Prem players - idiots!! Still comes across as me, me, me and the pressures of a megabucks earning tosser!

That affinity we used to have with players is long gone, for me... They weren't that different from the man on the terrace, but now everything evolves around them, and at a cost that really doesn‘t add up in the real world.. Trouble is, Once the big money came into football, the players and their agents, were always going to end up with the real power... Manipulating clubs for every penny they can squeeze out of them is now a doddle, in the Premier environment…
Does throw up the question? Would we want to get back to the Premier, and have these money mercenaries do it to us all over again? Sadly my answer would still be. Yes.

I sometimes wonder if it's a "getting older" thing but I certainly don't have respect or affinity to any CAFC player for many, many years. It's a crying shame the way football has gone but this topic has been discussed and debated by all and sundry over the years (thanks to SKY!!) . Would I settle settle for 8 - 10 wins in the Prem or 25 - 30 wins in a lower division? It wasn't a question 3-4 years ago...but I'm not fussed either way now given what our club has gone through. I would get the same buzz beating Orient away as I would one of the run-of-the-mill teams in the Prem. I am sick of the Premiership players and their lifestyles and them wondering whether their £110K p.w. is dissing them or not!

Having experienced both ends of the scale, I have to admit it felt sweeter beating the likes of West Ham, Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal, and just about everyone other than Man U… I liked my club getting compliments from the average football punter, or better still winding up the odd scouser who couldn't see the point in in Charlton, this after we had taken 3 points off them.. Good days! Trouble is it was never going to last, not the way football finances evolved.…Giving us pure player power. But ultimately it does boil down to what you referred to “what our club has gone through“… Success is relative, and with 3,000 going to Orient tomorrow, the bottom line, of having a committed team, who want to win, whatever league we‘re in, will have to do… I still want, you know what to happen, but then I’ve always been a dreamer.
