Hard fought 3 points, not pretty at times but we defended well.
Anything away from home has to be taken as a bonus, get in!

Came back on for the final whistle. Great win. Performance at the back I'm very happy with. Still lacking creativity though. Jones and Edwards motm's.

We only need another 30 games like that and we're champions.

Brilliant 3 points that! Bloody cleansheet as well
Much more comfortable when the opposition attacks. We look much more solid.
We didn’t really do much going forwards but defending well gives you the opportunity to nick a result with a single goal, which is exactly what we did. A defender scoring as well. Some really good positive things there.

We were warned that some games we wouldn’t play pretty football and grind out results
Today was one of those games

Was pleased with the performance even before th3 goal - weren’t getting outmuscled, looked fitter and stronger than the last few seasons - Edwards looks a really good acquisition, Coventry and Ramsay were very good - am very encouraged 😊😊😊😊

Excellent result, real workman like away performance and a clean sheet!
Definitely needed those subs, livened our attack up.
Thought Edwards was MOM for me, with Ramsey a close second (what a tackle!)
The only slight negative, I just don't think we are good enough in midfield yet. Onwards and upwards!

Very good workman like performance still A few things not quite right but I think Godden will read Ahadme better than Campbell … defensively excellent don’t seem right to pick one person out but I will Edwards outstanding performance..
3 points great start ..

A solid away performance, generally tight in defence and tidy in midfield. Front two had a hard time but did what you’d expect from them both.
Apart from a couple of occasions Wigan rarely troubled Mannion and Edwards just shaded MOM from Mitchell, bandaged like a Katie Price tribute act.
I can see why some posters say we need more creativity in midfield - something for NJ to work on no doubt.
Bloody fuming the Sky coverage cut out with five minutes to go. I hope that doesn’t happen every game.

Great win Lads- Would have settled for a draw being as its ,away But hopefully we wont be the draw specialists like last term.Dunno how much we can read into this match, as i think Wigan were down a couple of their key players. But hey! An away win, is an away win. I hope Small comes on, for the next home match. And need that key midfielder to hold onto the ball, and take the ball into the box .COYR

Great to get a win and a clean sheet. Defence did really well today and I've not said that about our defence for ages. Although Wigan weren't really a huge threat tbh, so need to see more. However Edwards did some excellent blocks and clearances, and that tackle by Ramsay was superb. Jones, Mitchell and Gillesphey did well too.
I was also impressed with Coventry and Anderson. Both made a couple of errors but I still think they did well, especially Coventry. Docherty seemed more determined to get booked than create anything lol
We do massively lack midfield creativity, but we all know that. Ahadme was starved of any service and clearly frustrated as a result.
A win is a win and I'm really pleased with defence performance and clean sheet.

Did he run and like a headless chicken? Blah blah blah..

I hope that doesn’t happen every game. I didnt see the game today... was at Headingly watching the Rhino's smash up Wigan with my son and his girlfriend. However, having watched the highlights, what I saw was work rate, solidity, competent defending and basically winning ugly. This is the Charlton that I love. A lot has been mentioned about signing the mecurial number 10 that will unlock defences.... we still have a few weeks to go before the end of the window and there's always January. I think the legendary Lennin Lawrence said that you need to get the basics in place and then add the start dust, and I think that NJ has started that way. I dont care if its ugly football, but we win... George Graham did the same at Millwall and Arsenal..... 3 points is a great way to start the season

Anyway... MATCH DAY!! COYR! Always look forward to reading the views of fans on here, hoping for positive reports later after a win,but this is football after all. Safe travels to all Addicks attending. COYA!!! We were misssing a combative, box-to-box attacking midfiedler, one who can advance up the pitch and take a pot shot if other options are limited. It's been my main focus over the last two weeks and lacking one has never been more evident as it was today. Wigan were poor, so were we. Solid in defence but going forward we just weren't at it. I didn't get Docherty's advance position when the ball rarely reached that high up the pitch. Ahadme had little service and there is no way we will get the best out of him playing on the break, that's not his game. Miles and Godden coming back can't happen quick enough. TC is lost as a replacement, he flatters to decieve. We are crying out for a player to give us the intensity to drive us forward to the wing backs are advanced enough to get involved. That didn't happen today and it it won't unless the dynamics are right. Coventry played well, Anderson did his job but Doc just wasn't involved enough for me just like TC. Wigan were poor, we weren't much better offensively so let's not go overboard. Lots to do between now and the end of the window. Still need 2 or 3 but a CAM is absolutely paramount because we totally lacked one this afternoon. The entire back line and Mannion were very reassuring. MotM was Josh Edwards,a quality defender, what a signing.

This is the sort of win we were promised by Luton fans when he took over. Never look in total control but did enough for 3 points, happy with that for another 9 months!

Nice to start with a win,and as NJ himself alluded to in his post match,we're clearly not the finished article yet. Encouraged to hear Mannion and the new look back line looked solid.
