I can see Dobson do well in a team that wants to get promoted IF he sticks to his main job as a defensive midfielder and doesn't try to do things he can't do (which he in a way was forced to do in the past due to lack of quality in the team). He is a rather poor box-to-box player in my opinion, and should just give the balls he wins to the football players. I second that. If Dobson comes back then Coventry has to go and be replaced with a lively box to box midfielder 100%.

If that’s the case I’d rather not sell him.
Coventry will surprise a few people this year I’m hoping, with a full preseason with jones his a good player with a good range of passing I can see him hitting our target man quickly through the lines.
I would like to see dobbo back, as long as he doesn’t take up to much budget and allows us to sign a bit more creativity still

Confirmed by the Hungarian club that Dobson isn’t signing for them. Will we see a return? The contract of English midfielder George Dobson with Fehérvár FC will not take effect. Although an agreement was made in February, Dobson requested that the contract, which was to start on July 1, not be activated due to personal reasons. The club has accepted his request, so Dobson will not join the team. The club continues to work on strengthening the squad and will inform fans about any new player agreements through their official channels. fehervarfc.hu/en/news/nem-lep-eletbe-george-dobson-szerzodese

But I have read people saying that he couldn't deliver a top six finish!. Now I know George had to cover a lot of our short comings, but cover 9 players!. I would love to see George have a fresh start under Nathan Jones, with a defined role and not having to run round like a rat up a drainpipe. My feeling last season was that we should be eternally grateful to George Dobson & Alfie May. Reading elsewhere seems the goal posts moved in Hungary, the manager changed and I think lost main sponsor, and the club were going to be reliant on youngsters, so the package wasn't as good as first offered.. All so unnecessary on both sides Charlton & Dobson...

I would like to see him back.
Saying that I can’t imagine him returning after everything.

I personally would bring back George Dobson as we know he likes the club and so does Nathan jones likes him but If I was Nathan jones I would say here’s the contract for you to rejoin but you will be a squad player meaning your not my first choice midfielder so you will be on the bench and utilise him that way.
Question is would he improve the squad for next season with his experience

If he is being asked to come back as a squad player I can't see how the club can justify paying the kind of wages that they offered last time, never mind more.

You simply can’t play Dobson and Coventry in the same team, no goals and very little creativity…….. Totally agree with this. And I don't think Coventry would be a Charlton player if Jones had been around at the time. If Dobson does not come back we need a CDM who can tackle, that might be Taylor but isn't Coventry. You need a box to box player who will weigh in with goals, that might be Berry, but it isn't Coventry. You need a creative No.10 who will score 10ish goals we don't have one at all (not including Fraser as he is likely to go). All very well Coventry spraying the odd ball about, that will get people off their seats, but apart from that I really can't see how he fits in. Personally, I think he is currently a luxury that may improve but I would rather not gamble on that, get rid, and go all out for a marquee No.10 signing and blow some of the budget we have been holding back the last couple of windows.

I can see him joining Wrexham. Think they’ll be a good fit for each other unfortunately.
