Out of the frying pan and into the fire!
Gallen’s appointment doesn’t feel me with confidence, especially after his spell with you lot a few years back.
Pleased though I am that we’re getting rid of that idiot, Aldridge, I can’t see why we need another DOF when we have Neil Harris, who has already proven that he has an eye in buying decent talent, especially from the lower leagues.

You guys slaughter a guy who has brought in players that have consistently kept you in the Championship…….I just don’t get it……better the devil you know and all that ……Birmingham owners thought they knew better🤣🤣 Not really. Aldridge was originally a journalist on newsatden, and somehow got his hooks into the Millwall board and lo and behold, he’s suddenly gone from being a journo to being tasked with finding new players for the 1st team. Remember, he only provided players names for Rowett as manager, it was felt that most of last summer signings were decisions finally made by Rowett, although Aldridge did know Joe Edwards and was probably instrumental in getting him in as manager. Aldridge left us a couple of years back and went and did the same job at Stoke, but he wasn’t a success and then our stupid board took him back on again. Thankfully he’s gone now, along with ex Charlton Steve Kavanagh. Never really had a problem with Kavanagh though. He defended the club many times and seemed to work well with our former chairman, John Berylson. Since John’s death, his son James has become chairman, and there’s a feeling that he’s his own man and wants to run the club differently to his father. He seems ambitious enough and the fact that the club has now been granted a new 999 year lease means the future is so much brighter, as the regen project can start to go ahead now. Another positive from our new chairman is that he’s sanctioned a £3M bid to buy Spurs loanee Japhet Tanganga. Spurs have accepted the £3M bid and now it’s down to Tanganga to agree personal terms. If he does sign for us, he’ll become our highest paid transfer fee, beating the £2.5M we paid Hibs last season to acquire Kevin Nisbet.

Amazing in Championship terms how underfunded Millwall are in terms of being competitive with the teams in that league. Hiring Harris was a masterstroke to avoid relegation but to build a competitive Championship promotion team needs so much more these days.

It's extremely difficult to be a "competitive" Champions promotion team. As you see, all 3 relegated teams occupied 3 of the top 6 places.
Next season might be the "chance" as I only see Burnley as a certainty to be chasing the promotion places next year, but it's still the case that whoever doesn't get promoted out of Leeds, Southampton, West Brom and Norwich are likely to be around the top places next season.
i remember when we dropped out of 2nd tier together with Southampton and Norwich. Norwich went straight back up and got back-to-back promotions. Southampton went up the following season and got back-to-back promotions. We went up the year after that and came 9th, only a few points off the playoffs. But that was as good as it got.

Harris isn't involved in choosing the players as much as he wants to be and he is frustrated by situation, He may have sold the club to the player but all managers would. Its a big step up for Langstaff and will be interesting to see how he fares!

I’ve seen a bit of Langstaff. I’ll be surprised if he makes it in the Championship.
Good luck to him though. He deserves to succeed.

Fella has scored bags of goals in league two but Championship is a huge step up, as with buying any striker it’s always a bit of a gamble so it will be interesting to see how he goes…..

Must admit I was never a fan of Gallen and haven’t been a fan of any of our recruitment personnel until now that Jones has taken over the decision making….. and the standard of our recruiting has gone up a notch since……For the first time in quite a few years I have confidence in our ability to bring in the quality required for us to compete with the best in the league……

I can see what you mean...many here thought he was ok. He did stick by us during the Arab idiocy and wit Sandgaard. He was here a while. On the face of it he seemed fine. Most of his loans were sound, though some were injury prone or unlucky in that area. The DOF we have now did badly last summer for what ever reason. However our new manager has a big say in who comes here now. Even Appleton had input with Conor Coventry and Tayo Edun. Given our shit owners, before the current ones, that Gallen had to deal with I advise you to wait and see on this one. My opinion on the best recruitment head we have had was Phil Chappel ex player who moved to Fulham and is now at Luton. I think he is good.

Harris isn't involved in choosing the players as much as he wants to be and he is frustrated by situation, He may have sold the club to the player but all managers would. Its a big step up for Langstaff and will be interesting to see how he fares! I would imagine the set up with Harris and Gallen is much the same as it was for Rowett and Aldridge - both Gallen/Aldridge find the players and it’s down to the manager to have final say. Don’t forget that Harris has an eye for striker talent in the lower leagues. He signed both Steve Morison and Lee Gregory and they did alright for him, and Harris himself came from Cambridge City, so he knows what to look for in a striker, and he obviously thinks Langstaff can make the step up to the Championship. Time will tell if he makes it, and £700,000 isn’t a great deal of money to lose if he doesn’t. The rewards, both for him and the club, are immense if it all works out.

millwallfan you should be signing Japhet Tanganga + Lukas Jensen in the next few days too 👍🏻 Tanganga announced today. Great bit of business from the club to sign him on a free, especially when Spurs originally wanted £3M for him before they inexplicably decided to not trigger his extra year and just released him. Because of his red card last game of the season, he will miss the first two league games and the Carabao cup against Pompey, but should be available to play against Charlton in our pre season friendly. You were right about Jensen too. Didn’t know this till you mentioned it. Lincoln have given the 25 year old, 6’6 Dane permission to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical. Talk of getting him for around £500,000. Another great bit of business.

I have a close friend who is best friends with someone at the club who would know all the above but he's not always so forthcoming with the information lol
