I keep reading all of the overreaction and what bad news it is for lower clubs that FA Cup replays are being scrapped.
The solution is quite simple in my opinion and that is to do what the German FA do which is drawing ALL of the top tier teams from the Bundesliga and the top 12 I think it is from Bundesliga II, out of the hat as the away team at the stage where they enter the competition and then drawing out the 32 lower level teams who are left in the competition as the home teams. It ensures they are all guaranteed a bumper crowd which in some cases covers the cost of their season.
If all of these English clubs who are putting statements out, need to rely on a possible huge FA Cup payday to help them get by, then they are doing something wrong.

There was me thinking that the FA cup was supposed to be the best domestic cup in the world. Why model it in the German cup?

The FA is justifying the scrapping of FA Cup replays on the basis that an extra £133m will be provided by the Premier League by way of compensation. As ever in football, money talks and the big clubs are only interested in the 38 x PL matches and European competition. Ideally they would like the FA Cup and League Cup scrapped altogether and at some point in the future they will not play in either competition as there is a further expansion of european competition. Football is losing its soul as this decision erodes even further a historic and romantic competition in which the whole football pyramid participates. A sad day for football by Peter Varney on X.

I was finished with football in general a few years ago, I'm only interested in Charlton Athletic and that's it

When you say a bumper crowd that covers the cost of their season surely someone like Accrington would prefer the income from a full Old Trafford or Anfield than from their own ground with a capacity of 5,450? Remember that the clubs get about a third of the gate revenue. If anything they should switch it so that the massive club is always at home, if it's just about the money.
