www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/wrexham-fan-dirty-english-bastards-tranmere-three-year-football-ban-racist-abuse/blt0d8a6814f53b389cAs an Englishman myself was I upset by this? Absolutely not! I think this is a ridiculous decision to ban the fan who said this. It’s football banter and we’ve given it to the Welsh in the past as I witnessed this at Swansea and Cardiff. I think there’s too much woke in football these days. People seriously need to get a grip if they get easily upset by these things. If Wrexham go up I’ll be up for an away game there and won’t be offended by any anti-English chants at all. We’ll just give it back to them! Lol

Even if it was racist, and I'm not going to put my head above the parapet over that, a three year ban sounds very, very harsh.
Unless this young man did something else I can't see how that is, at all, appropriate.

I’ll sidestep the misdefinition of the word ‘woke’. Suffice to say it doesn’t mean what a lot of internet warriors (particularly self-identifying right-wing types) think it does.
The important thing to note here is that this isn’t about in-stadium chanting (where ‘banter’ is somewhat expected). If you read the article it describes a Wrexham fan deliberately seeking out away fans (presumably on the approach to the ground) to shout this abuse directly into their faces.
The police who were on the scene at the time (not the football authorities or whoever is supposedly being ‘woke’ here) considered this egregious enough to prosecute and the CPS (who often don’t) and courts seemingly agreed.
I remember directly after a Charlton-Birmingham game a few years ago, a couple of teenage Addicks on the Kent platform at Charlton station started screaming “dirty Brummie bastards” at some away fans on the London platform.
A middle-aged Charlton fan on the same platform as them marched 20 yards to give both teens a hefty slap round the head before shouting “sorry lads” across to the Brummies.
Was that Charlton fan being woke? Hurling aggressive abuse outside the stadium is a world away from crowd chants amidst the passion of an ongoing game.
Personally, the Wrexham fan in this case sounds like he was being a total provocative prick and likely got (via the justice system) what he deserved.
Yeah, maybe (without knowing the full facts like those making the banning order did) a one year ban rather than three would have sufficed.
Either way, I personally can’t imagine any sinister ‘Agents of Woke’ are pulling the strings here lol.

The whole country is pathetically woke.. the small minority of nambies are chipping away at our society.. our leaders are soft and the country is following.. sadly!
