It's obvious we need a couple of new CBs for next season, has anyone got any ideas who we should be looking at. One surely needs leadership qualities and both of Championship ability. The other must have, is a sound dominant keeper. We have all seen opposition players this season have any impressed? From what I have seen no must haves spring to mind, but that is not to say they not are there.

I liked the look of Carl Piergianni for Stevenage the other week, but at 31 he's not exactly one for the future

Interesting comments today from NJ saying to effect that if the likes of Hector and Thomas cannot be coached to eliminate the concentration lapse defensive mistakes he will go out and replace them…..which i think is the likelihood Like all of us I bet I am not the only one who has thought on many occasions this season why don’t we get goals gifted to us like our defence has done on quite a few occasions this season The Stevenage centre back pairing was the best I thought we have come up against and it is because of this they are where they are in the league….if you concede very few goals you only have to nick one at the other end…….Our problem as NJ pointed out is that we have to score three goals to win a game of football which has been the theme throughout the season A top quality commanding keeper and 2 quality centre backs are what we need to compliment REG and Gillesphey…..NJ will already have a few feelers out for these players no doubt and if they are the same quality as Small and Ramsay then we will be fine I think

For me, the game last night was “too easy” and, for 10 minutes, we went cold and got caught out.. we should have won 1-0 or 2-0 comfortably.. if defenders switch off, that’s a very difficult thing to solve in training…

Think I would still have Bauer back if he's fit. Basically not played for Preston this season, but unsure if they have better options or if it's injury-related?

As much as I love Patrick Bauer he was injured for, and missed, a large part of his time with us and has not eradicated this from his game since he left. He would be another luxury player like Aneke. He would not only be unavailable for several games but, as we can't pick and choose when he will be injured, he might miss all the crunch fixtures and I'm not sure he would be cheap enough to carry in the squad on that basis.

Lincoln City have the best defensive record in League One, their keeper is Lukas Jensen 25yrs old and their skipper and CB is Paudie O'Connor 27yrs old with plenty of experience. Both could be worth a look if Lincoln aren't promoted.

I'm sticking with the two names I was banging on about all through January and beyond.
West Brom's Caleb Taylor who is currently on loan at Bolton and Connor O'Riordan who was at Crewe but joined Blackburn.
Maybe a loan for one of those if not both.

I've posted a few times about Christian Walton re a new first choice goalie and would be astonished (given the NJ links) if he isn't at least in our top 2-3 GK targets.
Caleb Taylor remains a good shout at CB, but I still feel we need an established (old but not too old, ie 24-27 rather than 20-ish) central defensive kingpin. A youngster on loan and an oldster on perm (or vice versa) seems ideal imho.
There are lots of names in the frame for the GK, CM and AM/winger gaps in our squad, yet it seems like pickings are way slimmer for the CB and target man roles. I guess that's the nature of the game - the folks who score the goals and stop the goals always carry a premium.

Paul I wonder if a cheeky bid for Nelson Abbey he hasn't played much since he moved .Unless of course he was injured played 2 times since his move in January I believe

Surely some club in the UK should be interested in these sort of players, but seemingly not. Weird!

Surely some club in the UK should be interested in these sort of players, but seemingly not. Weird! I suspect it's a combination of player's wage demands, Agent's fees demands, and the drive for clubs to prepare for the more stringent spending rules that are, surely, going to come into effect in the EFL once the new Government regulator gets up and running. Even free transfers require a signing-on fee. The Agents will ask for hundreds of thousands of pounds to 'convince' their weak minded clients to sign for the club of their (the Agents) choosing. Why else would someone like George Dobson choose to sign for a Hungarian club. I would bet my mortgage that his Agent received a fee for the transaction - and I bet it was at least six figures. It's no wonder that the English clubs are allowing these average, over-paid, players to move abroad where the income tax is less so they 'bank' more money. I'm happy to see them all leave. Like Jordan Henderson, many of them will soon realise that there is more to life than money. Clearly the lifestyle doesn't effect the Agents though - funny that!
