Other clubs do have them but not all.
I think our thought process or culture has to change 100% where loan players are concerned.
For too long now we've just assumed that bringing players in from a higher level are going to be better than we already have or what we can afford on permanent deals. We have been wrong on that so many times and it needs to STOP starting with the next influx that will no doubt arrive before the start of next season.
Just look at the players that have come in from Man City alone. Matt Smith, Tedic and Fiorini....An absolute waste and then there's Abankwah and the likes of Louis Watson from Luton.
I would like to think that given Nathan's huge link to Luton, they hold the key for us in next season's loan market if this season is anything to go by. I am talking John McAtee who is on loan at Barnsley and Joe Taylor who they have loaned to Lincoln. The former has 12 goals in 19 games this season while the latter has 10 in 15.
These are the calibre of player we should be looking at, not utter shite like Ladapo who has been predictably poor just like I said he would be.
My message is, get a proper loan manager in or listen to what Nathan Jones is telling you. Take the job of player recruitment from Andy Scott because he recruits players based on who they play for instead of how good they are.

Personally I think leave all recruitment decisions to NJ and take Scott out of the loop completely NJ will already know the type and probably the players who will be at the Valley next season

I think that the unmentioned benefit of loan players is that if they don't work out you can release them within a year.
I wish that Aneke and Kirk had, initially, been signed on loan. Their wages have been a huge drag on the club's finances. Camara and Ladapo are two good examples of players that I would be very worried about if they had another season or two on our wage bill.
Sometimes we unearth a real gem. Cullen, Bielik, Gallagher and Rak-Sakyi were way better than anything we could have afforded to sign permanently, and there have been a fair few others that have contributed. There are always going to be some that don't work out.

Would be interesting to see how many loan players you need to go through on average to find the likes of Cullen, Bielik, Gallagher and Rak-Sakyi. Might be just a numbers game. I would label loans as: 1) Became one of the best players in the team / contributed a lot to the season (Cullen etc) 2) Added value to the team. Someone like Sessegnon comes to mind. E.g. if you have a "really good right back" but he gets injured, a loan to cover that position might be a cheap short-term solution. Can't bring wath the "really good right back" brings, but plays his match, and is on par with the team average, quality wise. 3) Added no value to the team. Brought in to cover a position, but below the team average, quality wise. You are better off to use an academy player as a stand in (if available). 4) Horseshit. You got played by player agents or mother club. If you bring in 10 loan players over 2 seasons, 1 turns out to be a 1/, 2-3 end up in my 2/ category and the remaining are spread out over 3/ & 4/ you have a 30-40% succes rate with loans, which sounds more than acceptable to me. In the end they are loan players for a reason, i.e. they weren't good enough for the team they were playing at.

I really think it depends so much on how you use the loan players in terms of their position on the pitch and role in the squad. There are a lot of round peg/square hole issues in play, particularly at clubs like ours with a quick recent turnover of managers.
Thierry Small is the other side of the coin. He by all accounts was a flop during his recent loans with Port Vale and St Mirren (both barely played him and then almost always out of position) whilst he's probably our best signing (and remarkably on a perm) of the January window.

There are and have been exceptions, but I think with the majority of loan signings the players mind set seems to be wrong and in general are a waste of space. I accept while we have been in the lower regions of the league we have had a few outstanding loaners, but compared with the majority they are few and far between.
