Training at cafc apparently. He has been on trial at (and playing friendlies for) Charlotte FC in the MLS in recent weeks. Either someone has confused Charlotte with Charlton or he's going through clubs in alphabetical order!

Right footed left winger. Can't do LWB job. We are covered on right. Not a prolific striker. Not sure why he is training with us apart from generosity.

Nathan Jones has hinted that Charlton are close to picking up another free agent soon. One he knows well. Two names I've heard today are Kazenga LuaLua and Tarique Fosu. He worked with LuaLua at Luton. Fosu was at Stoke after he left so I'd guess more likely the first one #cafc

Pretty sure it must be LuaLua that NJ refers to as the player he knows "very, very well" in the post-match interview, given that he coached him at Brighton for many years before signing him for Luton. This sudden frenzy of (actual and mooted) super experienced free agent signings (many of whom must have been without a club for so long because of their wage demands) suggests our billionaire owners are 'splashing the cash' at least in the short term. Fair play to all parties if so x

Could be a shrewd signing this. I hadn't realised that he is still only 28 and we are still the club who he has made the most appearances for, albeit just 59. That would be my only concern.

Reams I got the feeling that the signing NJ was talking about was for Lua Lua rather than Fosu but I I might well be wrong If Fosu is training with us would take both personally, both are proven talents well capable of unlocking league one defences

Not really much call for wingers in this system but need a plan B I suppose. I’d be happy with Fosu.

Would he be a better option than Anderson Would that be the same Anderson who’s scored valuable goals & been our best player under Nathan Jones 🤦♂️ If Fosu is fit …and that is always a big “if” at this club, he’s worth a short term deal. We are not going up or down this season, but he’s a quality player. It’s a mystery why he’s a free agent at his age. Attitude issues ?

It’s encouraging that the investors are still willing to fund short term deals for players like Fosu & Lua Lua (and Wickham), even with our season effectively now over.
It suggests two things to me:
1..They are listening to Nathan Jones regarding free agents he thinks are worth a look,
2. They are already planning for next season, if such players can prove themselves.

The problem at that time was the fact we needed action for this season first! Good thing we seem to be going in the right direction now and can focus on medium to longer term plans. These are interesting signings though consdiering their positions. Does NJ want to bring them in to allow him to switch up formations and get a better look at Tyreece? Are we going to see more of Fiorini in the closing games, assuming we are effectively safe by then? Or is he a dud? Ladapo seems to be one who's declining. Each time I see him play I think this is more decline than fitness, but you never know. Wickham seemed to have a good cameo.

A fully fit Wickham and Lua Lua and maybe even Fosu would be a bloody hand full for league one defences I really like the look of NJ trying to get in streetwise proven quality rather than unproven kids or unfit or unsuitable premiership duds on their way down as they are not premiership standard…. We all pretty much knew the recruitment strategy had to change after this season and it’s looking very positive now moving forward

Would he be a better option than Anderson I'm not sure he would give the same work rate as Anderson?, but if we need to push forward and create more he would be a good alternative. At 19 Anderson will still have bad games and make wrong decisions, so no where near the finished article yet, but will only improve. If Fosu is fit and still hungry then we all know what he can do at this level.

The last two games Anderson has looked a bit less sharp than previously, and his passing has gonew awry. felt he could do with a break on saturday, as he was similar in the match against Cheltenham. It's great that he is clocking up appearences in a first team shirt, but if we have Fosu, we can give Anderson a rest and start to dose his appearences a little.

I’ve always rated Fosu, but he’s one of those players who has genuine ability while not always being easy to accommodate in a team structure. He’s obviously a very different player to Anderson who Jones has been playing for his energy and intensity.
I quite like the idea of “trialling” out of contract players since they represent low risk gambles with very little downside. The contracts are typically very short (six weeks for Wickham and even less for Lua Lua and Fosu if they sign) and the wages are likely to be relatively low. These players are all free agents for a reason and need a job.
I have to laugh though. If previous owners had gone this route they’d be being accused of being cheapskates. It’s nevertheless a sensible approach and, arguably, a continuation of what we’ve been doing since SE7 arrived on the scene (loan players on trial is a very similar strategy), but it’s not really a sign of financial commitment per se.
We’re obviously not safe yet, but with the pressure off a little it will be interesting to see how Nathan Jones approaches the last eight games of the season. Will he look to play a bit more football or continue with a very direct and high intensity style? Will he give any game time to players he’s so far ignored (Terry Taylor, for example) in an attempt to find out whether they can contribute next season? Wickham and any other free agents are obviously on trial and there’s little point to that if they don’t get at least some game time.

Interesting. On reflection, a surprising signing. Thirty three years old and at no time in his career has he ever been a regular starter, typically making the majority of his appearances off the bench.
My clearest recollection of him is when he scored an equaliser for Brighton against us at the Valley. He’d just come off the bench.
Anyway, good luck to him.
