Seems early, in more ways than one! Player of the year, not season. Great win and he deserved it really. The amount of goals he scored last year (more than Haaland?) is crazy. Liked his interview after. First of the 11 cup finals tomorrow!

Well deserved.
We would have been relegated in spades this season were in not for Alfie May’s goals.

So it related to his form with Cheltenham for the 2nd half of last season as well? Really pleased for him as he never hides in a match even if it is not going well.
As OR says, where would we be....?

It's London EFL Player of the Year Well done Alfie, but that makes a lot more sense. The other nominees were Ali-Al Hamadi (AFC Wimbledon), Theo Archibald (Leyton Orient), Ilias Chair (QPR) and Ryan Leonard (Millwall).

FULL LIST OF LONDON FOOTBALL AWARDS 2024 WINNERS Premier League Player of the Year – Declan Rice (Arsenal) EFL Player of the Year – Alfie May (Charlton) Men’s Young Player of the Year – Cole Palmer (Chelsea) Goalkeeper of the Year – Guglielmo Vicario (Tottenham) WSL Player of the Year – Lauren James (Chelsea) Women’s Young Player of the Year – Agnes Beevor-Jones (Chelsea) Manager of the Year – Ange Postecoglou (Tottenham) Goal of the Season – Michael Olise (Crystal Palace vs Luton Town) Outstanding Contribution to London Football – Harry Redknapp Power of Football Award – John Berylson (Millwall) Community Project of the Year – Sutton United Foundation
Fair play to Alfie and great for him to win something, but it seems a weird awards ceremony tbh, not least due to having a judging panel that just consists of SkySports and TalkSport presenters plus a couple of random former players and football suits.
Then there's doing it by calendar year rather than season - or actually not tbh. Though only players at London clubs are eligible they seemingly don't have to have been London-based all year.
It's not just Alfie who's only been in the capital since the summer, but MOST of the winners: Vicario, Palmer, Beevor-Jones, Postecoglou etc.
They'd be better off reframing it as what it really is: The Sky/TalkSport London First Half Of The Season Football Awards.

I see a couple of the glue sniffers from the dark side are drooling over Alfie May since he won his award.
Says more about their football knowledge than mine.
Making excuses for him because he and his wife have just had a kid yet the same people were slagging Fraser off for poor performance just after his wife had just given birth.
I've said he's a good player inside the box when he doesn't have think think about things. He's an instinctive striker who just pulls the trigger but very lightweight out of it when he has to work and run at defenders.
Most people agree with me while the usual suspects just can't see it.
Obviously extremely grateful for his goals but for all round ability, I wouldn't have him in my top ten in the division.

Great to see our fox in the box and future POTY score another valuable goal last night.
I make that 18 for the season.
Ridiculously written off and disrespected by forum/ VDU screen posters on several sites who don’t see what he contributes to the team live.

Only reason we had half a chance of getting out of this mess, is the fact we have a proven league 1 goalscorer in our sqaud. When/If he hits the 20 goals mark, he will win POTY and rightly so.

I thought for a few games he looked sluggish and lacking in confidence.
However, I thought he looked razor sharp again against Cheltenham but was trying too hard, lacking that bit of composure in front of goal, and just needed that tap in goal which he got.
Today showed what a great player he is around the box with 2 great finishes!.

Three seasons on the trot he's scored 20 plus goals in League 1:
2021/22 - 23 of the 66 goals scored by Cheltenham (34.85%) 2022/23 - 20 of the 45 goals scored by Cheltenham (44.44%) 2023/24 - 20 of the 56 goals scored by us (35.71%)

Being a stats nerd I can't resist pointing out that Alfie is no longer the one person in the L1 top twenty scorers chart with ZERO assists.
OK so 20 goals and 1 assist (for Kanu yesterday) is still a bit light in terms of feeding others, but fair play to him.
FWIW the highest L1 top scorer with zero assists now is Sam Smith (in 22nd place) who we tried to sign in the summer around the same time as Alfie!

....And both goals inside the box where he is at his best. Pointless playing him outside it because he hasn't got the skill set to be a number 10.
The best strikers down the years weren't that great outside of the penalty area, it was out of their comfort zone. Rush, Lineker, even Haaland only sparek into life when they are staring down the eys of the goalkeeper.
Pleased for him yesterday, took his goals really well.

Alfie making a few people eat their words today.
The best striker of his type we have had since BWP.
Two excellent goals today - we must resist all offers for him this Summer.

Maybe his best performance of the season - pure class and effort.
Playing him as a 10 or a winger is madness

Don't agree m8 regarding a few people eating their words, it's 1, Michael Appleton. Still sends shivers down my spine that he used to play Tedic upfront instead of Alfie.
