I think if you look at the list of names I put forward few were signed in January. As you say January is always a problem month, but signings had to be made mainly due to so many previous bad signings, we were desperate. It's beginning to look that those that were signed in January, now they are getting up to speed, may ( hopefully) bail us out of trouble. Sorry Manikin I wasn’t aiming my post at you, personally, there are other critics that I was thinking of that slag off everything and want everyone sacked. They are the ones that will never be happy. They are probably never happy with their own lives either but they hang around bitching at everyone and everything and it becomes tiresome. Thanks, but no need to apologise, it's a forum and we see things differently at times. We all want the same thing and that's to see the club we all love be successful and although it's early days I think many of us are more positive about the future than in long, long time.

I feel that by the end of the season we will be able to get a far better handle on Scott’s signings. The winter window is always tricky particularly when you don’t have much money to spend. At our level we will often be in for players who have a limited amount of game time due either to injury or lack of game time at their previous club. In both cases the new arrival will be undercooked fitness wise which will be a challenge to getting off to a flying start. My instinct is that by the end of April there will be more ‘successes’ because of the appointment of the new gaffer. He demands high energy and enthusiasm for the challenge whilst Appleton and the subsequent caretaker boss played out from the back at a far slower tempo which put great pressure on defenders/midfielders. Not wishing to parrot Red but I’m sure with the benefit of hindsight that we can’t make a value judgement until the last ball has been kicked for this season. Completely agree. It’s obviously been a very disappointing season, but by the end of it, it’s entirely possible that we’ll have a very different perspective on our permanent signings (it’s our loan signings which have mostly flopped) and the same may well also go for the departures. We’ll see. From the perspective of final League table and a serious skirmish with relegation it's certainly been disappointing. But when we look through the lens of management, new signings and current form in a few weeks time we might conclude that this season has been transformational?! And that's before we consider the loans and out of contract players soon to depart. Of that starting XI which beat Derby the other night no less that five were acquired in the last window, plus the keeper has been on the bench or injured all season until Jones was appointed.

History is written by the victors. The final verdict on this season may well not be delivered until the end of next season.

It’s also a complete straw man than fans “bitch about everyone”, normally delivered by computer screen fans who don’t go to many games. Just for the record, my POV is that Nathan Jones is an excellent appointment, who deserves time and backing. The investors have also done an excellent job in usurping the SMT in the recruitment of Jones, sidelining the hapless Technical Director, and pumping more money in for better quality signings in January. Some people are too dense or obtuse to understand this , but criticising the SMT as a bunch of useless chancers is not the same as slating the manager or the owners. Just to end on a positive note for the Nellie’s on here, Steve Avory is probably the best of his type in English football, and the Academy continues to churn out some fantastic young footballers.
