Reading v Port Vale. Can't work out what would be the best outcome for us. Any thoughts?

Reading will batter them.

Draw I imagine to keep them both in play but as Reams say, I'd imagine Reading will win it comfortably.
Reading should easily get safe as long as they avoid further points deductions.

We could do with Bolton stuffing Cambridge, which would just keep them in the mix. Not a nice way to do it, but what are the chances of Reading being deducted further points.

We’ll have to be better than Saturday manikin but I’ve very confidence we’ll get the 3 points at Cambridge. Both Orient and Reading can be good and bad so a draws probably the best result for you but either way you need to win your games and ignore the others. Good luck though.

Thanks for the Bolton perspective. Good luck for the rest of the season, perhaps you can do us a few favours along the way.

The EFL will bend over backwards to avoid giving Reading another points deduction. That always seems to be a “fan friendly” approach until you’re a fan of a club losing out because a competitor has not been punished despite breaking the rules. It’s ironic that while precedent suggested that Port Vale should have been awarded the abandoned game at Reading 3-0, the fact the EFL backed away from making that decision has actually worked in our favour. A 0-0 draw tomorrow night is probably the best result for us.

I don’t really care how the others do it’s us who needs to do the job.
Still got 13 games left.

Can’t get much better than those results. We need our own now!
Edit: Just seen Lyle Taylor got sent off as well. Bonus

Every week Nathan Jones has to work with the squad and improve how we play. We then need to deliver wins against those teams around us in this mini league. Who knows exactly how many points are required nor which teams fight on and which drop. But we will know week by week whether we are improving and on our way to our first win since end November 2023.

After the next two games we would have got the top three out of the way in consecutive matches. Then we need to string some wins together, anything from those to game could be looked upon as a bonus but the performances will be vital.

Best scenario, as far as we are concerned is to remember how to win games . After the next two games, we start to get in to the nitty-gritty of the teams round us where drawing games won’t be good enough.

We obviously need to focus on our own results. Its in our own hands.
However, other results do matter. We could stay up with 45 points or go down with 52 and there is obviously a huge difference between those two scenarios. If we can't get another twelve points from here then we deserve to go down, but getting another nineteen or twenty is likely to be a lot more challenging.
I haven't done a comparison with previous seasons, but I'd guess the League One table is not typical for this stage of the season. On the one hand, we're in touching distance of everyone up to Wigan in 13th place, but on the other Burton in 18th place are already six points ahead of the one point per game mark so that one point per game from here takes them to 52 points. Even Shrewsbury in 19th place are at +2 versus the one point per game mark. If either Cheltenham or Port Vale string together a run of wins the survival mark could easily be 50 points plus.

Cheltenham are already stringing together wins and I think they will be safe.
It is Carlisle, Fleetwood and 2 others which at present looks like Port Vale and ourselves, but if we can start winning then Shrewsbury or someone else could get sucked in and I am sure no Shrewsbury fans think they are safe yet.
Do not forget that in 2020 we went down with 48 points that might have been sufficient if other results had gone our way.

I break out in a sweat when I look at the table. Relegation is so so possible.

12 of the 13 teams we have to play still have something to play for with the exception being Northampton maybe , so there won’t be any easy games . I think we have enough to stay up , just , but it could go to the wire .
