Summed up perfectly in the first half today when Tennai Watson received the ball to feet on the half way line, took one step inside the Reading half and then did a u-turn.
Our entire midfield are afraid to carry the ball because they are so brainwashed into defending space behind them.

Well the team is packed with defensive minded players, just look at that atrocious midfield. There’s no attacking talent there at all. Instead we’ve either sold or let our attack minded midfielders leave with no direct replacements. It’s completely reckless and frankly unforgivable yet somehow Scott still has a job at the club.

I would hope that the owners would be able to identify the SMT weakest link and give him his P45 before our relegation was confirmed.

Well worryingly they don’t appear to have to have identified this so far and the longer they fail to do so, the further their investment in the club will tank. They need to wake up and smell the coffee. The failure of Scott, Rodwell and co only reflects extremely poorly on the owners.

The owners must recognise that the SMT are totally and utterly incapable of making a sensible decision and the whole lot of them need to be replaced. It isn't just Scott that is the problem they are all in it together.

Our entire midfield are afraid to carry the ball because they are so brainwashed into defending space behind them. There was no movement or forward runners from midfield. And we had no pace outlet out wide, because Andy Scott allowed CBT to be sold, and pathetically then failed to replace him. Our wing backs were uniquely terrible yesterday. I cannot imagine any circumstances in which Nathan Jones starts Tennai & Edun on Tuesday night v Lincoln. It’s time to go to a flat back 4 - Edwardes and Small as conventional full backs, Gillesphey & Jones as our centre halves, and Bakinson playing in front of them as the No.4 / No.6 ,which is supposedly the role he was loaned for (DM). No more square pegs in round holes. Both Tennai & Edun need moving on this Summer. They are clearly not good enough, even at L1 level.

At the time, I was stupid enough to think that getting rid of CBT would be okay because Scott will bring in A Collins and a decent hold-up forward. Instead we got Ladapo, no attacking midfielder and the chuckle brothers playing as wingbacks.

No more square pegs in round holes. Whilst I have said that Thierry Small is the new arrival I'm most interested in seeing play, fielding him as a traditional left back is probably a very bad idea. Whilst he's supposedly a LB/LWB, his defensive positioning is viewed as so weak that his last two loan clubs have chosen to play him as a striker (Port Vale) or right winger (St Mirren) instead! That tells its own story. Personally I'd like him to (at least initially) get a few 20 minute impact sub cameos at the end of games, but in more forward positions. Bit of a leftfield (rather than left wing) suggestion, but might he be worth a couple of brief tries in that number 10 position we seem to be lacking? At 19 he's still at an age where you can perhaps experiment with on-field roles? As far as replacing Edun as a defensive left back goes, presumably that would be a job for either Gillesphey or Thomas?

Was he any good as a striker? Stats say one full game as a striker (in the EFL Trophy) plus four brief cameos in L1 for between 1-20 minutes at the end of a game. Zero goals and zero assists (even though Port Vale won that trophy game 4-0). This was at the start of last season. He was subsequently dropped from the matchday squad at the end of August and recalled by Southampton in the January window. Not that encouraging obviously, but in a different team/squad who knows? That's why I'm suggesting trying him out for a few minutes at the end of a game we've already effectively won or lost to see if we can find a good role for him here.
