Following the departure of Michael Appleton as Men’s First-Team Head Coach, the Board of Directors wanted to update the club's supporters. Please see the update below:
Our current league position and form over the last two months is not good enough and does not match the ambition and investment of the club’s owners or the expectations of us as a Board, the club’s staff and you, the supporters. To arrest our recent form the decision has been taken to relieve Men’s First-Team Head Coach Michael Appleton and Men’s First-Team Coach Richard O’Donnell of their respective roles. Our search for the club’s next Men’s First-Team Head Coach is under way. Given our current position and the ambition of everyone at the club, it is vital we get the right appointment to lead Charlton forward. In the meantime Curtis Fleming will take interim charge, supported by Jason Pearce and Stephen Henderson. Curtis is a very experienced coach while Jason and Stephen have a real understanding of the club given their history as players at Charlton. While appointing a new Head Coach is a key priority, we are also well aware that there is just over a week left in the January transfer window. We have already signed seven players this month and we are still looking to further strengthen the squad before the window closes next week. The transfer activity will be overseen, as it has been throughout January, by the club’s Technical Director Andy Scott. We would like to thank you for your continued, passionate support and assure you that everyone at the club is working hard to turn things around on the pitch. Your support will play an important role in helping us finish the season as high up the table as possible. www.charltonafc.com/news/update-board-directors?fbclid=IwAR0ycxfZgknoN7ANe-QgmtZkjH60qjNqsYKHGFFtMy3ROvw3YCBVRxMHH9s

Can't see any decent manager wanting to operate with one hand tied behind his back all the time as AS pulls the strings.

Club confirms we are still bringing players in before the deadline The obvious is a leader CB to play in the middle of the 3 A number 10, hopefully Collins, 2 wingbacks ,would love Powell and Sorensen and another CF in the young Bradford lad But the priority is a quality centre half, we cannot keep gifting goals away like Jones did on Tuesday night

I’d be surprised if we bought a 3rd CB in January. Unless the plan is to use REG as a RWB. Which is potentially what I’d do. Although his speed as a CB should be very useful. Not sure what he’s like going forwards/attacking for the wingback roll. At the moment I’m worried we won’t see any more incomings. Minimum for me is a 10 and Striker. Ideally a wingback as well.

That’s a load of rubbish Proof will be in the pudding but given the recent history of revolving door for the manager/coach (this season) I'd say it was far from rubbish. We will see who comes and really hope I'm wrong.

I must have missed the board statement because I posted this on the rumours thread an hour ago. Obviously ignore what the statement already answers.
Not much info coming through about what happens next and how might Appleton's departure affect the rest of the transfer window.
Obviously nobody can commit themselves or prefer not to after Appleton's 'Saturday night sacking' was revealed but I have asked the obvious questions and got these answers back:
Firstly I asked if our transfer budget will be affected for the rest of January given Appleton's severance package. - The answer I got back here is that the compensation is not material to anything.
The other question I asked was will Appleton going have an impact on further players arriving in terms of a new manager coming in and wanting to give everyone a clean slate to see what he had at his disposal? - The answer here was 'Good Question'. Hard to say but some players will no doubt need to know who the manager is before committing to us. (understandably).
My final question was - Tricky situation then. Obviously you can't rush the next managerial appointment given what's happened with the last two but if we don't appoint in the next eight days, is it fair to say the squad will not be bolstered? - As yet this questioned has not been answered.

What if the new manager doesn’t rate them ? You can see the obvious pitfalls of a dud Technical Director calling the shots. Michael Appleton clearly didn’t rate Louie Watson, for instance.

Nathan Jones 6-4… quite a way out front I think Nathan is a big gamble. Although when you consider some of the signings we have made. Andy Scott does seem to like a gamble. As we said before though (not long ago!). Those odds are just based on what people are betting.

He’d be Box Office. I would imagine it would depend on whether he’d be willing to take a significant salary drop - probably as much as 90% - to work for us.

The exact same point is made - a horribly unbalanced squad, top heavy with micro midfielders, and yet a dearth of authentic full backs & decent defenders. The Charlton Live crew also have a good conversation about who is responsible for this 👆

You’d hope that money wouldn’t be an issue if he was looking for a project to revive his managerial career. It was interesting that his agent let it to be known to Talksport that he was interested in our job.

I like the idea of Jones I think he could do wonders here. Rowett is also a fine manager but I think he wants to be up North for young family

Jones for me because of the foundations he put in place at Luton.
