Of why the Academy just isn't producing attacking footballers anymore. Should be utterly embarrassed with his performance today. Not sure what he gets paid but he needs a rocket up his arse to start earning it.
National League South standard.

I'm guessing you mean Tyreece Campbell, and yes, he's bloody awful and I don't know how he's in the squad.
MA seems to be the issue here.

If he is to have a career in football, then someone needs to take him aside and really tell it straight!
Being dropped seems to have no effect as he just comes back into the side and performs at the same abysmal level.

I hate to criticise the young players, but christ his body language was shocking.

Needs to go out on loan, see a dietitian, bulk up in muscle and decide if he wants to make it in the professional game. Might seem harsh but if I was the manager, this is what I'd be advising him.

Same can be said of Tennai Watson too.

Daniel Kanu, completely different, the boy doesn't stop trying.

TC is mentally weak … opponents know that if they rough him up he will fold after the first heavy challenge.
Back in the day he would have cut his teeth in the South East Counties League and then the Combination where he would have come up against hairy assed old lag defenders. He wouldn’t have made it based on his current attitude.
Playing in tier 2 Academy games against other teenage kids where everyone plays nicey nicey through the thirds doesn’t offer any meaningful test of heart and physicality.
He either toughens up mentally or will steadily drift down the football ladder in tier 6 or 7.
It’s a tough old world and to succeed you have to hate to lose.

I agree, but let's not hang him out to dry just yet. It's not his fault he was thrust into the first team too early. He needs a loan away from Charlton and a guiding hand. He's still only 20.

It's a crime against him and against us to play him at the moment. He looked as if he'd rather be anywhere but on the pitch in front of a crowd. Another mark against Appleton.

Any criticism of Campbell or the other kids should be re-directed at Andy Scott, and the squad he’s failed to build. Even Stevie Wonder can see the kids are not ready yet - it’s criminal that do much is being asked of them.
I’ll never hear a word against Steve Avory - the bloke deserves a statue at the Valley - he’s a hero.

The new position and new system he did not know what his role was .. he was a winger today but we played two number 10 … badly at fault for their goal .. it undone the good work that we had done in the first 30 mins …. But I thought he looked really tired ?

So far this window Scott has: - sent Abankwah back replaced by Gillesphey - signed Backinson, Coventry and Fiorini to strengthen midfield options - Returned Tedic to be replaced by someone soon, hopefully! - Appears to be in the process of selling CBT - to be replaced this window? Some seasons Academy players really push on. But when the team is struggling they don't need to be in the firing line. Ideally once more "elite" players arrive, those Academy players who won't feature in the matchday 18 will go out on loan to a lower league.

Lovely yo see the little cameo from Tyreece today. Chasing and pressing. Every bit of Confidence knocked out of him by Appleton and I personally found it upsetting to watch.. The boy can play when he plays with Confidence....

Confidence is absolutely massive, especially in young developing players. Jones seems to have the ability to install that in his players. With the youngsters we have coming through it bodes well for the future.

Same can be said for Anderson but he has certainly picked up under Jones.

I've noticed over the years that many academy players hit the ground running, but then need to take time out to readjust to their new status. Some keep going, whereas others are loaned out to gain experience at a lower level. Let's see how Jones utilises the young talent in our squad.

You could argue that Kanu has looked better since his return from Southend or he could be another who has benefitted from Jones. Zach Mitchell is one I will be looking at with interest.

We've always had at least eight Academy lads in our squad, and they've played around 30% of the minutes every season. Aside from the relegation back in 2015/16 when Fraeye, SMT and owner relied far too much on Academy players, they've served us well. And paid a significant portion of our losses when they move on. Players like Anderson and Asiimwe have played together for ten years! They're assets for our club and we all want them to do well. But who knows enough about the path from U21 to first team regular to comment? Here's hoping Campbell can contribute to our attacking threat over the weeks to come.
