đđ
I have to, my boyhood club too, my childhood memories of my Dad captaining them for seven years and leading them to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup in 1974 and the European Cup Winners Cup in 1976...yet all I wish on them now is defeats, where and whenever possible đ
The reason? Well it's because unless their steam train stops they are going to maul us and most other L1 clubs next season and that will be the ultimate insult for me. I'll never live it fucking down! đ«đ
Millions to spend, huge US companies falling over themselves to get involved with sponsorship and now I am hearing middle eastern money want a piece of it too.

Reckon theyâll jump to the Premier League quickly The top end of League One is a very different to National League and League Two. They're on two points per game today AND their estimated revenue is ÂŁ20M per season. That's more than any League One club but it still needs to be spent well, and the squad managed well. Same with any club.

Think their friendlies in the summer helped paid for their season. If they go up I reckon theyâll finish top 2 next season.

Do the financial fair play rules impact them at all? I know they have serious owners who have a goal of getting into the top league but if their wage structure blows every other team out of the water is there a cap that comes into play?

Where do they get the money from? Where did they get it from last year? If there are all these FFP rules in place do they not apply there?
If their turnover is 20K, how do they manage that in League Two?
Attendance against Barrow: 12,323 (not sure how if the capacity is 10,771, I guess it doesn't count streaming revenue). Wrexham vs Barrow is hardly an attractive fixtures (albeit Barrow are also in the top 7).

Their turnover is not ÂŁ20k it's ÂŁ20m pa.

World wide audience tune in to watch Wrexham playing Barrow in League Two and paying what for it? Maybe in the New York all the soccer fans were getting up at 10am their time on New Years Day morning to watch it. And of course they've all bought a Wrexham replica kit.
If you listened to Methven's podcasts he also said you can't "cheat" them on silly things like selling shirt or stadium name sponsorship for ÂŁ2m if the market value for it is 200K (for example). They'll allow you to be out by a reasonable margin but they know how much these things are worth and will know if you're using it to bypass FFP regulations.

I can't remember the numbers, but I think Wrexham have in excess of 2m followers on social media. This must be generating some income and would boost the credible value of sponsorship, I would imagine.

So get people all round the world to buy stream passes for Charlton TV and we've solved the problem. As long as it's worth watching.
Maybe the rules didn't apply in the National League, so they just funded a winning team out of pocket then said "hey, watch this team they keep winning". But we can't do that?

The new stand has been delayed due to planning permission so for the remainder of the season they basically erected a temoray stand behind the goal where the new stand will Kop. They ripped the kop down last summer. The temp stand can hold 2,555 and has ben full since it went up before xmas.

The thing is, if we had a massive mega star promoting us, like Ryan Reynolds, we would, probably, sell many, many more stream passes. We we sold, just 25,000 more at ÂŁ10 a pop that would generate ÂŁ11.5m a season. Silly as it seems, 25k is, probably, a very small number across the whole of the US. It, obviously, helps that they win most of their games. Wrexham are going to be a juggernaut until they stop winning and the American fans (who love to back a winner) stop spending ÂŁ10 to watch the games.

When Wrexham secured promotion back to the EFL last May, they had an aggregated social media following of 4M! Their Instagram following alone is 1.1M. Which is bigger than a third of Premier League clubs! And not far off established EPL clubs such as Brighton and Palace. Three TikTok posts around their promotion secured 2M engagements (likes etc). Total social media impressions for last season were 700M or roughly 2M per day! As a result the merchandise sales, match streams and commercial sponsorship deals will have all gone through the roof. They've replaced some tractor crowd as shirt sponsors with United Airlines FFS.

I thought the new FFP rules being discussed now and that will cover all four top flight leagues was supposed to stop rich owners buying succes ? Iâm not saying I believe that it will ever happen but that is the theory.

Iâm not saying I believe that it will ever happen but that is the theory. For EPL and Leagues One & Two there's a form of SCMP which limits wage bills. Not the case for Championship (which changes in 2025) nor the National League. Wrexham are effectively building a global brand based upon fans getting in at the ground floor... observing a club in a town of 60,000 people. They have been so effective that their revenues are already higher than some Championship clubs. As long as they compete at the top of whatever division they're in then growth will surely continue. That's to say whether they win promotion or not this season there's a positive and engaging narrative with which fans can engage.

Mate of mine called me this morning saying he had a spare ticket for the FA Cup tie at Shrewsbury today as a mutual friend had to drop out last thing.
I went to the game and as much as I hate to say it, they have improved on last season and are for me the best side outside of the Championship. They will go up this year and as for next season, I don't think there will be two sides better than them in L1 either. Far superior technically than any team I have season this season. George Evans is a very clever player and is one of many playing in a division way below where their ability belongs.

Saw the highlights and looked like Shrewsbury missed two or three big chances to score. Having said that Wrexham are clearly doing all of the right things to have a crack at their second consecutive promotion. And they clearly have the revenue plus know how to sign players that will improve them next season. Time will tell how far and how fast they go but certainly can't see CAFC keeping up with them.

reamsofverseWith Wrexham in the automatic promotion places with 4 games to go, what are your thoughts on Charlton v Wrexham next season? Who do you think will finish higher in L1 ? You will be the Go-to man for away tickets, this will be a new ground to tick off for many of our fans.

I won't even get tickets for myself mate. So hard to come by. One of the downsides of their success is fans who have been going for years are unable to get tickets nowadays because of all those who have jumped on the bandwagon.
I hope we batter them to be honest, L1 will be a harder task compared to teh two shit leagues they have just waltzed through.
They will spend though and pay players money that nobody else can. I am hoping FFP catches up with them though.
They have had L1 level players in their side for the last two seasons but now the likes of Elliot Lee and a few others are returning to a division that they struggled in the last time they were in it, it means they will have to invest in at least 8-10 new players, most of whom will need to be championship quality.

I also thought of Elliott Lee.
He struggled big time for us, it wouldnât surprise me if Wrexham moved him on this Summer. I also heard Micheal Brown being fairly critical of John Mullin and his limitations, it will be interesting to see how he fares in L1.
Itâs going to be a very competitive League One next season - Charlton , big spending Wrexham, and possibly Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham City. And hopefully âŠMillwall.

Whatever the competition and the odds before a ball is kicked, it's 100% down to SMT / owners setting budgets and football mgt and scouts execution to secure quality additions. Nobody is arguing that we need to strengthen the spine of the side. Ideally after ten games we're in the top six and the bookies have us as one of the favourites to finish in the top six. If we can maintain two points per game then even better. It remains to be seen who Wrexham acquire, and who they drop.

I remember Wrexham knocking us out of the League Cup at The Valley in I think 67 .... One of those nights I do believe May Sr was Captain and a relative was at school with us. He was an Arsenal fan too!
The also knocked us out of the FA Cup 6 0 in another declining period in the 70s
Seems that Wrexham are quickly becoming very unpopular on various digital sites with a Loadsa money attitute.

Our two former Centre Backs linked up for one of Wrexham's goals last Saturday.
O'Connell tries his luck from 25 yards and it deflects in off Inniss!! Hardly a Hollywood goal!

Itâs going to be a very competitive League One next season - Charlton , big spending Wrexham, and possibly Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham City. And hopefully âŠMillwall. I have been speding the last few days welcoming Wrexham fans to L1 with a light friendly warning! It's simple really and it goes like this. When in the National League they put together a team of L1 players to get them out of it and to take on L2. They succeeded but when you do that, as ours did on last two occasions we went up, the squad is then broken up because successful one's only have a two year shelf life. What they have now is L1 standard players playing in L1 and that won't be good enough for the owners. I argue that Mullin has never played in L1 and in comparison Alfie May has scored 20+ goals three seasons running. The last time he went up from L2 with Cambridge he didn't fancy the higher level and instead opted for two divisions lower on big money at a club close to his Liverpool home. The majority of those L1 players they signed couldn't get in the side of the L1 clubs they were at, at the time, players like Andy Cannon for example and Ollie Palmer. They will spend alright but they won't break into the top six in my opinion and besides that they won't be the draw they were in the lower leagues for some of their summer targets because there are bigger clubs with bigger stadiums and fanbases. You ahve to admire what they have changed but I cannot stand the owners who just don't acknowledge the clubs rich history like the glory years of the early and mid-90's when my Dad captained them for seven years. The only piece of history they allude to is Mickey Thomas' goal against Arsenal. My other gripe is where were all these fans when the club needed them three years ago? I have been a Charlton fan for 40 years and seen a few promotions in my time aswell as relegations and the fact I point out to Wrexham fans I know is in comparison Wrexham have 8000 new fans who have jumped on the bandwagon and seen two promotions in the two years they have become 'new' fans. I'll probably come down with a few and hire a box when we play them but I hope we smash them to pieces. No longer the club I grew up loving from the age of 5 to 12. Boyhood memories that noene of these new plastics will ever have.
