Never believed I'd ever agree with anything Joey Barton ever uttered, until now. He compares women football commentators to men discussing knitting. Sounds a fair comparison!

I learned to do basic knitting along with my three sisters and I also learned to darn and sew. The only thing I ever knitted was a red and white scarf for my Saturday afternoons at the valley, but spending most of my adult life in uniform the darning and sewing came in very handy as did my ability to iron or press my own clothes none of these tasks were considered “ a women’s job “ by my peer group. Commentating is basically talking on a subject, some people are good at it some are not so good, I can’t see how gender affects any of the skills mentioned above.

I don't watch much football now (really lost interest) but regarding the little I have seen, I have found the female (if I'm allowed to say that!) commentators to be as good as if not better than some of the male (if I'm allowed to say that!) ones!

My gripe about female commentators in men's football is their pitch of voice. It seem to lack the enthusiasm of a good male commentator and at times breaks into squeal rather than a roar. Let women stick to womens football and men to theirs.

In the same way that for every Peter Drury there is a Sam Twatterface, for every Alex Scott there is a Karen Bardsley. And for every Gary Lineker there is a Mark Poocatch. I could go on, but give me Emma Hayes or Lucy Ward's proper analysis any day over the likes of Clinton Morrison or Joey Barton.

I don’t have a problem with female commentators in other sports, just mens football, I shall continue to turn the volume off when necessary.

The female voice gets too high and shrill when a goal is scored. Which is great for having earwax blown out, but not so good for finding out who scored or general comfort.
