Including Appleton waking up and realising playing May out wide is a bloody ridiculous decision.
The football at Carlise and tonight was pretty at times but largely ineffective.
If I saw things last Saturday that needed work on, why can't our manager?
Too many strikers again making the same run tonight, nobody holding back to give the man playing it in another option.
We make the pitch far too big.
Our defenders and Dobson play it around between themselves in our own half!! They should be further forward on the half way line or just inside the opposing half, close enough to make one defence splitting ball to our strikers instead of having to inch up the park making a dozen passes.
Our game was that expansive tonight Cheltenham played their football in the spaces that we created for them.
We lack quality, we just don't have enough dangerous players. We over play it, nobody drives forward through the middle and gets a shot on goal, we just don't do anything to cause an opposing keeper to parry the ball away into the path of our players or try and force a fumble.
We don't stand on their keeper at set pices, we don't block the his path to come and collect the ball, there is no movement prior to the ball coming in either. We lost 85% of the aerial balls played into both boxes tonight and it just isn't good enough.
I want to see either 6ft 2' Caleb Taylor or 6ft 4" Connor O'Riordan in when the window opens. Let's have some bloody brute force attacking the ball at both ends of the pitch.
Having Dobson and McGrandles in the same side just makes us too pedestrian, we need a midfielder to grab the game by the scruff of the neck, we just don't dominate in the middle of the pitch enough.
Very lucky tonight. A win is a win but it was hardly convincing.

Pretty much agree with most points there. Fraser is dog shite ,he couldn't pass the salt. And slow AF.

Pretty much agree with most points there. Fraser is dog shite ,he couldn't pass the salt. And slow AF. To be fair mate we take that long getting up the pitch, opposing defenders are able to cover all eventualities of where the ball is going to end up. Fraser often gets smothered because he's on his own while McGrandles and Dobson are still makingt it across the half way line. Nothing for him to aim at when he gets the ball. I'll say it again Alfie did an interview two weeks ago saying he thives on facing goal and running onto passes played through to him. Why oh why are we not playing to his strangths? He is wasted out wide.

Very good points Reams. Hopefully Micky Apples and the coaches see it as well.
Maybe he needs to watch a game from the stands one time…

Well done for trying to pick the bones out of that one Reams😂 All really good points you have made, importantly we don’t have any aerial threat from corners or free kicks, it looks like Jones is the only defender capable of winning competitive headers in either box which is quite scary really……When was the last time we either we scored a headed goal from a set piece let alone win a meaningful header from a corner.? MA played 2 defensive midfielders today when the game was crying out for a creative player like Watson to start picking holes in their defence…. No suprise to me that his assist for the TC cross provided our pen at the death. And apologies for the negativity but Tedic is definitely not the answer up top, he looked like a show pony to me with exaggerated attempts to try and win the ball and when it came to him he couldnt trap a bag of cement with both Miles and Aneke out I feel for us a bit until Scott can get to work in Jan Thank goodness for Alfie Haarland though 😂😂

The club has let it be known that both George Dobson and CBT have been offered new contracts.
This is going to be interesting.

Thanks for linking that article aaronaldo It’s informative and very clear. Both players are waiting to see if they receive better offers than the one from us. We’re not going to get sucked in to a bidding war and overpay. We keep our fingers crossed.

Yeah, which I think most of us assumed that was happening.
Like Scott says, hopefully we can sign a few quality players early and convince them to sign contract extensions. Even if only for a year

Yeah, which I think most of us assumed that was happening. Like Scott says, hopefully we can sign a few quality players early and convince them to sign contract extensions. Even if only for a year Clearly there is a chance that someone else will offer more but history suggests that doesn't, always, happen. With the impending new SCMP clubs will, I believe, be reluctant to commit to expensive, long term, contracts. Neither Dobson nor Blackett-Taylor have ever played, consistently, above League One. There is a big risk for a Championship club, and for us, on the basis that we aim to get out of this division, that a good Championship contract could be a burden if they are not able to step up. Either of these players could find themselves in a similar position to Charlie Kirk in that they could end up on a long contract at a club that won't play them as they are not good enough, but cant give them away as they earn too much. Then the player and the club need to come to an arrangement. It's far better for the club to hedge it's bets and hope that the player proves to be good enough but keeps the wage offer realistic, just in case he is not. Also, in the case of Blackett-Taylor, he is rather inconsistent. He's not a teenager, he's 26 and he has only, really, had one good season. A three year contract on big money could be a disaster - especially if he is, at best, a good League One player. Based on the above, I am inclined to agree with the kind of statements that Methven keeps coming out with. The new contract offers need to be sustainable, or the players need to be allowed to leave. I have, personally, seen nothing to make me believe that either of these two players could step up to the Championship. That doesn't mean that they can't, just that I wouldn't want to gamble much of our budget on the expectation that they can.

I agree that contracts have to be sustainable, my worry about players leaving is are they replaceable.

I agree that contracts have to be sustainable, my worry about players leaving is are they replaceable. At our level, every player is replaceable. The question is are the club owners willing to 'invest' enough to, adequately, replace them.

Adequate is the key word. One hell of a good player would need to arrive and slot into the Dobson role straight off.
