and still doesn't finish on the winning side!
A cracking end to end game against Cardiff this afternoon saw Charlton draw 5-5 at Dartford.
Tuned in to see Karoy Anderson starting and was expecting to see him dominate the midfield, but that just never happened. Since his good start to the season and subsequent call up by Jamacia, he seems to have gone backwards and plenty of others were better than him today, shame, hope he recovers his form very soon!
Today was all about Casey, a couple of his goals were very Mendonca'ish. He wasn't even that much involved in the build up play, but he was incredibly clinical and scoring 5 was amazing, well done young man!

Impressive! How old is Casey?
He's looked good from some of the games I've seen him play.

He's 18 on the 19th December, certainly knows where the goal is!

Interesting. Kanu might be looking over his shoulder a little then. Hopefully they push each other on!

Counting his under eighteen hatrick that's eight goals in three days.

I think he is possibly a bit lightweight yet for 1st team. A touch of Sheringham or Mendonca about him. Nice to see Touré getting minutes despite two+ injury ravaged years and the defence conceding five.

21 goals in 14 games u18/21's, nowhere near the first team yet, but a great prospect.

Some quality finishes. Awareness of where the goal is all the time. Very impressive

Got in free today as a Season ticket holder. 10 goals and a Red Card ain't bad value for £0 !! OK had a pint and crisps too, still best value 90 minutes this season

Reminded me a bit of Evan Ferguson, another Irish striker who Brighton have unearthed. Top player he is already and Casey looks a very good finisher too.

Someone says he needs beefing out a bit?
Also seems that no one in the club knows how to defend anymore.

Someone says he needs beefing out a bit? Also seems that no one in the club knows how to defend anymore. I wonder whether current coaching is about all players including keepers being comfortable at playing out from the back? The art of defending is a lower priority?

According to TransferMarkt he’s contracted until end June 2026. Always difficult with young players, but if he’s going to make it at the highest level next season will need to be his breakthrough season.

Been talking about him for a while, I believe he has been on the bench this season and would like to see him given a run out. Look a great prospect.

Another one who needs a longer contract. I suppose the longest contract anyone would sign would be about 4 years, not sure what the rules are.
The thing about a 2 year contract is that you can play well in year 1 and then get sold cheap in year 2 because your contract is running down.

I believe our owners want to invest in youngsters as they feel that's the way to go, well they now have a good opportunity.

The thing about a 2 year contract is that you can play well in year 1 and then get sold cheap in year 2 because your contract is running down. It's always a gamble. If the player develops more than was expected then the club might lose out if his contract is nor long enough. However, in order to get a young player to sign a long contract I imagine that he has to be paid more and if he doesn't work out then the club are stuck paying him - potentially for several years.

Much can slip between cup and lip … there’s no guarantee that he will be a success and so we took a cautious option.

Apparently Brighton & Celtic are looking at Casey, probably another player that Brighton will nick off us for nothing.

I think he was actually awarded a three year deal back in summer 2023. Therefore plenty of time to watch his progress and re-evaluate. It appears likely that he will feature as one of the eight Academy players in next seasons squad but after that who knows?

Apparently Brighton & Celtic are looking at Casey, probably another player that Brighton will nick off us for nothing. The £1m they paid us for James Beadle (if that's who you're referring to) is hardly nothing. I get your point (if that's what you mean) that as a Cat 2 academy we get less compensation than Cat 1, but on the other hand Cat 1 academies cost a couple of million a year more to run, so it's swings and roundabouts. Either way, given his age and perceived profile (and the premium strikers carry) Casey will likely cost Brighton, Celtic or whoever several million.
