It will be a real test to the new ownership this. They've said we shold keep our youngsters to enable us to move up the pyramid. We still sell them but at a higher rate in the championship, to enable us to continue progress.
If we sell Miles in January then this is exactly what we would've done with previous owners. I wouldn't say the new owners have huge levels of support across the fan base, so this could be a turning point.

If another Lookman kind of money bid comes in, I can't see how we won't sell.

If another Lookman kind of money bid comes in, I can't see how we won't sell. in the scheme of things, 4 to 5 million sounds a lot of money but in football terms of running the club its peanuts. Keep hold of your talent and get out of this poxy league

If another Lookman kind of money bid comes in, I can't see how we won't sell. Oh 100%. The fact we've turned down a £3m bid already in the summer means this is a possibility as his value is only going up. It's worth pointing out that previous owners would've 100% accepted the £3m bid as well. I'm very glad we didn't. I just wonder how long we can hold off selling him. It's not just for our sake either. Miles will develop more and more if he stays with us and continues to get the game time he is at this level.

Leaburn not ready for the prem even question he was good enough for the championship … it will be another waste of a career
If they offer 5/6 mill grab the money and run for a player that don’t perform when he starts and only looks a world beater when he comes in after 60 mins .. he got a long long way to go yet

I didn’t know that Chelsea & Brentford had been relegated to the championship 🤔 perhaps I should be having a bet on them going down this season.

Selling Leaburn would be disastrous and leave us with just May and Tedic. It’s unlikely we could recruit a decent replacement in January. We need his parents Tracey and Carl to convince him that he’s better staying with us for his ongoing development. Chelsea are a shitty horrible club who just mop up any emerging talent and loan them out. These players rarely make their first team - Look how long it’s taken for Conor Gallagher to become a regular and is now team captain. Sorry for that unnecessary rant but I hate Chelsea - remember the beach ?

I would be gutted if he went to Brentford and then two or three years later he moved on for five times the money they pay us.
That said, he only has this season and one more on his contract so we need to sell him in January or next summer to avoid a fire sale price.
I would love him to stay with us for years but, realistically, he should be in the Championship next season and if a Premier League club sign him they can loan him to one for a fee in 2024/25.
I don’t want to come across as so nostalgic that I look like I’m living in the past but having Carl’s son in the side has been a real joy - not to mention that he is a very talented player.

I think under the previous ownership Sandgaard would take the first offer that gets put on teh table and he'd be gone. Thankfully that won't happen with the guys in charge now. They won't want to sell unless a silly offer comes in and I actually think that if and when it does a percentage of it will be reinvested into the squad.

A competent SMT would only listen to offers for Miles in late January, hopefully by then we would have signings that set us up for top 6. Perhaps his parents might persuade him to sign an extension as per Joe Gomez. Are we sure his deal doesn't have an extra year option to 2026?

You only sell your best talent if the Club is desperate for cash (Shelvey), the player has thrown his toys out of the pram (Parker) or you get offered bonkers money (Lookman). Miles’ parents are not only Charlton through And through but they understand football so will know a move at this stage is pointless. Next summer if we haven’t at least made it to the Play offs or Jan 2025 if we’re still not progressing as a Club would be more likely move windows.

It’s just a matter of when Miles gets a big move, could well be in January with him staying on until the end of the season…..money talks If we invest a big portion of that fee into the squad and spend it well we could well be top 6 come April

Or the summer of 2025 when he is out of contract and he can move for free. If it were my son I would be suggesting that he waits until he is a free agent then he can choose where he goes and earn much, much more money. The club have to make a judgement as to when they can get the best fee combined with how much football we can get out of the player between now and then. Waiting until January 2025 is a big gamble, in my opinion.

So we wait and see..
