Don't let him go. If he is going to move, it will be between seasons, not in the middle of one where he is a key first team player.
I really would like rules in place to stop players being taken from clubs mid-season when they are key first team players.

Hold on to him. As I said 8mil plus.
Replacements Isaac Olaofe (Stockport) plus Caldwell (Southend).
Caldwell a bit of a gamble but would be cheap.

Obviously he'll be attracting interest. It will be all down to our new ownerships ambition with us in terms when we let him go. We'll never keep him for long unless we get promoted this year. We might keep him a few more years if we do.
Hopefully we have solid recruitment in place for succession planning for when he goes. Kanu is great, but not likely ready yet and also a different type of striker.

I suspect that he will move in January, and the vast majority of the money will be 'reinvested' in the running costs of the club - not the playing squad.

If he moves in January it will show that our owners are no better than anything we had before.
If our restriction is wages to older players, he doesn't come under that restriction, but anyone we replaced him with would.

Much will be down to his management Tracey and Carl Leaburn. When I spoke to Tracey at the end of last season they thought that his early development should be at Charlton for a couple of years at least. Of course if the money is dangled the SMT may feel that the club should bite the bullet. I would be sorry to see him go as he has such a good attitude, but if he does we will need to spend wisely.

For Leaburn and others, much might depend upon perception of our chances of the play-offs. Will we qualify and will we be competitive? I'd like to think we can keep going at our current pace, so we will arrive with more than 76 points. So do these players fancy travelling to the Championship with us or securing a bigger contract elsewhere? And is it possible to place a value on Leaburn and even an expected value next summer? As for the Villa interest, it's impossible to tell whether that was genuine nor whether they will put in a bid.

If we do sell he won't be getting in any EPL team this seaosn so any deal must include a loan back for the remainder of this.

Longer he stays the more we get when he leaves. Good for his career too.

And why didn't Michael Appleton just keep his mouth shut. Why publicise it and draw more attention to it.

And why didn't Michael Appleton just keep his mouth shut. Why publicise it and draw more attention to it. I suspect that one of the manager’s KPIs will be about transfer trading profits. There is no doubt that Charlie Methven’s plan is to keep costs manageable while making profits on player trading and Leaburn is the most valuable player on our books. Also, if the Championship is going to have a new set of rules around what the can spend from the summer, January could be many clubs last hurrah!

I understand our place in the food chain, but the deal has to be right, correct value achieved and decent replacement(s) lined up first.
I'd obviously MUCH rather he stayed, but if someone's willing to pay through the nose and we don't give him away and have a plan in place I'd understand as it's the model we look to be trying to implement.
