You're not meant to download anything, you just go onto WhatsApp and join this channel and then people chat about Charlton Athletic.
I saw Channels under Updates a few weeks ago and saw some for football clubs but none for Charlton Athletic and no ability to create one. But today when I looked I was able to create one and so I searched again in case someone else already had but there still wasn't one.
I think soon every English football club will have a channel on there.

I had a quick look at one of the others. I'm not sure if it's only the one who created it who can post, and so I'm just expected to post a load of news updates on the site (which I'd presumably copy from X/Twitter) and whether someone official at the club should have created the channel.
I just saw there were football club channels around and none for Charlton.

Might be worth sharing with all potential ITTV members thinking about following the channel, what private data relating to other WhatsApp channel users we can and can’t see. My understanding is that unlike a regular WhatsApp group members won’t be able to see phone numbers etc., but admin might be able to see name and profile picture, for example? Not sure if that’s right, but I’m sure we’d all appreciate a heads up. Thanks again for setting this up. |

I saw a few for big clubs because British accounts could create them, so I have no idea who created those for Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal, Man City etc.

I did do so on whatsapp, not done on twitter / X but I'm hoping it will come in searches when people want to look for it. As it is, it seems it's one person owning the channel and others just subscribing to whatever they post, in which case I'd rather an employee at the club had the channel.
One thing I have noticed is I can't 'share' something then pick 'whatsapp' and then pick the channel as the destination. I see individuals I post to and sometimes groups but not my channel.

WhatsApp channels seem to work in a way that only the owner posts any content (or maybe appointed admins) but you cannot see anyone's numbers, whether they are the channel owner or the followers.

Meanwhile other channels of far smaller clubs have over 1000 subscribed and have posted updates. There was a game yesterday so no excuse not to have posted any messages.
I can e-mail the club back and ask who is running the channel and why there has been no content. But I am not volunteering to run it, that should be done by someone employed by the club, which I am not.

At the risk of sounding like an arse this WhatsApp group is, basically, a new job (set of responsibilities) for a club employee that didn’t ask for it.
At the very least someone at the club needs to allocate a phone account (number) and then they need to copy and paste every Tweet or update to the phone attached to the WhatsApp group.
I assumed that it was going to be some kind of discussion group where fans could interact. Surely if the club wanted another way to communicate with fans they would set it up themselves.
It seems that the club’s favourite method of communication is to leak, deniable, stories to fans that are on message boards. That way they neither have to be true nor released to everyone at the same time.

Once of the issues I found is when I clicked Share then went to WhatsApp it didn't give me the channel as an option to share the post. So I had to copy the link then paste it in the channel.
Someone in the club communications who puts the news onto the official website would also need to post the articles onto the WhatsApp channel.
