It's actually strange that we're having such problems at centre half when you consider how many players we have for that position.
Let's just consider the younger players for starters:
Deji Elerewe - EFL League One Apprentice of the Year 21/22 Zach Mitchell - EFL League One Apprentice of the Year 22/23 James Abankwah - From Serie A, highest fee ever paid for a League of Ireland player Lucas Ness - Received a lot of praise from fans for appearances last season
Yet the first two have been loaned out at a lower level and the other two can't get a game.
Centre half is a weird position where younger players are thought "too inexperienced" and older ones "too slow".
Dunno what the solution is but it's definitely not a lack of options.

I think the solution was not to panic, play a settled back five in a settled system and coaching, coaching, coaching! This is League One - a place where mistakes are not a rarity. Remember Naby Sarr at Wembley five years ago?! Some want to see clean sheets. But 2-1 and 3-1 wins work for me. Being flippant but it's the front six creating 20 attempts per game that will keep us climbing the table.

I think we need stability and quality in the coaching to get these players working together. Our biggest issue over the last few years have been many options at a similar level. No one's really stood out and then injuries happen, so we get so many changes at the back. This just creates instability as you get used to your pairing over time but we'd have different pairing every few weeks. Even different systems 2 CBs then 3CBs the next game, then 2 again. I think it's good that we are loaning a few out to get more experience. Better than having them all playing u21's occasionally or being sub / backup for the first team squad. We've stablised since Mickey has come in. Whether he's stablised with the right two CB's, time will tell. But at least we have a concistent pairing at the moment.

Does anyone know how tall Toby Bower is? He looks smaller than Chris Solly, who we all know was only 5'3". League One sides tend to target short full backs.

I see Todd Kane has joined Manchester 62 in Gibraltar, that says everything!

I see Todd Kane has joined Manchester 62 in Gibraltar, that says everything! "Kane, known for his time at QPR and Charlton, has had an extensive career with several loan spells before joining Coventry." Why is it that they often don't reference players playing for us when they make it to the prem but a guy that's barely played for us is "known for his time" here. I feel like someones been using ChatGPT for work here..

Hector, Jones and Maynard-Brewer keep a clean sheet today. Whatever reservations some fans have about Thomas going forwards he's a very sound defender. And who can choose between Asiimwe and T. Watson? We were fortunate not to concede in the first half but the game changed at half time. The stabilising continues and there will be the opportunity to add to the squad in a couple of months. For now playing and training together is the answer.
