We might also keep an eye on KMSK Deinze who are owned by ACA. ACA own c5-10% of GFP / SE7 Partners. They've just beaten RSC Liege in the Belgian 2nd division and are now one point off second place. Perhaps zenga can inform us about the Challenger Pro League and their chances. At the end of last season their management has publicly stated that they want this season to be amongst the top, and next year promotion to the first division. It's a very competitive league however, with possibly 3 teams going down/up. The journalist who predicted the winner of the league for the past 4 years has Zulte-Waregem as clear favorites, and Lommel (Man City owned), Deinze and Beveren as the main challengers. So far Deinze has lost from Patro Eisden (conceded 2 goals in minute '88 and '90), and from Lommel (direct contender). They won from Ostend and FC Liege (expected to be relegated). As far as transfers go: they officially didn't spend any money but most likely did (the Belgian way) and got some experienced players in. One guy left for the MLS. So stability + increased the quality of the overal squad. The challenger pro league is quite entertaining this season, as 4 youth teams (Anderlecht, Club Brugge, Genk and Standard) participate. They can't win promotion but can get relegated. This weekend one of the biggest Belgian talents broke the record for being the youngest player ever to score in a professional game at age 15 (not sure if this twitter link will work in the UK). Thought I'd start a new thread for anybody interested in our new link to the Belgian 2nd division. It appears that they too are in the hunt for promotion over these next two seasons.

Nothing for Charlton. One of those coaches that have been around forever, and every couple of years his name pops up somewhere and you realize 'ah he is at that club now'. Knowledgeable, intelligent, a bit old school. I fell asleep once while watching his team play while sitting in the stadium.

Small update:
- SK Deinze jumped yesterday to the 1st place in the Challenger Pro League (other teams have a game in hand).
- Back in November they replaced their head coach out of nowhere while being 3rd.
- During this window they signed only 1 player, a spanish midfielder from a Tier 3 club (data driven signing)
- No one left the club during this window
Quite amazing what ACA (Charlton shareholders) is doing over there and the level of stability they have accomplished. I'm surprised no players have been exchanged between Charlton and Deinze so far, which might actually be a good thing.

Figured an update was due: Tonight is the last matchday of the regular season with 5 teams still having a shot to grab the last direct promotion spot. Realistically speaking it's between Dender and SK Deinze who both have an away game, Deinze at Seraing (who needs to win to avoid relegation) and Dender at Francs Borains (safe from relegation since last week). As a failsafe, both teams have already qualified for the playoffs for the 3rd promotion spot: number 3 plays 6, 4 plays 5; winners play each other. Winner of that game then plays the number 14 of the Jupiler Pro League. All in all quite amazing what ACA partners have achieved so far with a small club like SK Deinze. Also worth mentioning, all their academy teams were really bad last season. After acquiring the former academy of Mouscron, all their teams have made quite a leap forward. Once the season is over I'm set to meet with someone from ACA partners where I can ask Charlton related questions. hhj

The leaders Beerschot lost but but the six clubs beneath them all won. Remember when Germinal Beerschot were briefly one of our feeder clubs? About 20 years ago in our PL days we had four or five clubs, each in a different European country, we signed deals with to be our feeder club in that country. Not sure anything actually practical came of any of them, although in the case of Beerschot we played a pre-season friendly over there. Which I was reminded of when I found the Beerschot shirt I bought at that game whilst spring cleaning this week. As a result of those pointless PL era tie-ups (and of course the later Duchaletet network nonsense) I'm naturally wary about any mooted link-ups with overseas clubs, even those as tenuous as the MSK Deinze shared ACA minor ownership thing.

Didn't we link up with inter Milan at one point and talk of Ronaldo coming over as part of his recovery from injury was the rumour at the time?
