It sounds evil but late August and late January (ie the tail-end of the transfer windows) is when I hope we f**k up rather than win. As that amplifies the need for players in a way that a flukey 5-1 win (like we got against the Champions almost exactly a year ago) wouldn't. Losing and/or winning concentrates the mind and purse whilst the transfer window is open, surely? Any wins in those periods might encourage ignoring deficiencies and simply papering over the cracks in the squad. Obviously I'm aware of the salary cap etc.

Nope. I want us to win every time. Same here. But wondering how the club, the new owners and the fanbase respond if we fail to win for the fourth game in a row.

Great I spend £20 on train tickets and more that on beer and hope we lose, what a stupid topic and question.

Really you want an answer to such a rediculous question.

Who needs football enemies when we have fans like this. Small wonder we are where we are.

People being all het up on this suggestion. Are you really so short-termist in your thinking? Have you never in your life taken some minor punishment for future rewards, eg taking a slightly lower paid job in a company that's nearer or has better promotion prospects or less evil bosses etc?
Let's put it this way: Would you rather we lost to Port Vale and signed five more players, or beat Port Vale and only signed two more players (since the victory briefly papered over some of our shortcomings). I'm more than happy to give up three points today if it means getting the squad that can bring us a lot more than three extra points over the rest of the season.
I know we live in a culture of instant gratification, but surely most of us on this forum (not just me) are old enough and ugly enough to see the bigger picture?

I’m sorry but you’re talking absolute bollocks. Win or lose it’s obvious we need signings. We don’t have to lose today to make it obvious for the owners that signings are needed. You have to look at the squad for that. You’re overthinking this too much.

You have to look at the squad for that. You’re overthinking this too much. Performances in August demonstrably do have an effect on squad investment though. Just take last season. Eight games, of which we won five (including a 5-1 league trouncing of the eventual champions) and lost just one. How many players did we sign on deadline day? None. The season before, however, saw us win just one point from our opening four league games. How many players did we sign on deadline day that season? Three. Both windows were under the same owner and recruitment team. The only difference was we were near the top of the table at the end of August 2022 and near the bottom of it at the end of August 2021. Doing badly in August isn't the end of the world if it means more squad improvement. Of course we'll sign a striker and a right wing back (those are clear gaps in the squad) but we need at least three others imho and where we sit in the table, based on things like today's result, could well affect whether we get them or not.

Hopefully even the half-heads on here now realise that we need to bang our owners' heads against the wall and today's result maybe went some way towards doing that. I can't see us winning more than ten games this season, plus ten draws = 40 points = dicing with relegation. Someone needs to kick Charlie Meth-head and our gajillionaire owners all up the arse. We need at least three decent level players (and a decent manager) to even be mid-table, let alone push for promotion ffs! As per the three previous takeovers, we got all excited then quickly realised that we're actually owned by total asshats

A few villages have lost their looney tonight reading around forums and social media.
