With rumours of interest in Leaburn , do we have any idea what is his injury and will he be back this season?

You would think now that MA has worked out you can only use Aneke as an impact sub Starting him in games and playing him for extended minutes was always going to be fraught with danger… as it turned out

Seriously though, any news on when he is likely to come back and break down again? If there is a footballing god, could you please give us at least 12 games before he gets injured again? Thank you

Thank you Last we were told was that both Aneke and Camara were in training late January. No idea when either might become available for the bench.

Chuks Aneke back in full training for Charlton – but Nathan Jones won’t give ‘any inclination’ about playing prospects Richard Cawley 8 February 2024 0 Comments Chuks Aneke is back in full training with Charlton Athletic – but don’t expect detailed selection updates from new manager Nathan Jones.
The big centre-forward has been missed during his latest injury absence from the squad.
Aneke, 30, has not featured since he scored in the 4-0 win over Reading on October 21.
He has played just seven times this season but – when available – has been a highly-effective frontline option.
Charlton are already deprived of Miles Leaburn who is set to miss the remainder of the campaign with a hamstring issue which required surgery.

He ain’t going to get that many minutes before his next soft tissue injury BUT he may still do enough to make the difference between tier 3 or tier 4 come August.

He ain’t going to get that many minutes before his next soft tissue injury BUT he may still do enough to make the difference between tier 3 or tier 4 come August. Coming off the bench for the last ten minutes he will make a big difference. I lost count of the number of times we conceded a very late goal, but if Appleton hadn't broken him by playing him in three or four games on the spin, if Aneke had come on for the last ten minutes in those games I'm confident that many of those goals wouldn't have happened. I think we all agree that signing Aneke when we did. and the length of contract we gave him, was ridiculous but that error is compounded if the manager doesn't use the player properly. Coming on for the latter stages to score us a goal or to just occupy the opposition's defence and stop them scoring, is the only role that Aneke should be being asked to perform. I'd be surprised if his contribution, coming off the bench, late, in the last ten games isn't worth ten points.

Not sure, but did I read somewhere when Chucks has played this season, we’ve never lost?. The lad has done well in his cameo roles when he’s playing , but how we missed this type of player and failure to bring one in when leaburn got injured .

Lovely careful pass to Kanu lastnight that led to Karoys goal. Let the young guns do the running.... No need to bust a gut and do the hamstring. We have missed you Chuks!..

I agree, he's contributing despite not being up to full speed which suits him, and us fine. His presence alone frightens the life out of defenders.

As a defender, the last thing you want to see at the 65th minute when you’ve put in a shift is Chuks coming onto the pitch.

I absolutely love chucks. Its a tragedy how his career has been blighted by continuous injuries and will never get to see how good a player he is. He's top half Premier league. He's that good, I'd still want to keep him even if it meant he only plays a handful of games a season. He wouldn't be here if he was injury free. I also, think he would be playing for England.

Always offers a useful cameo,as others have said if he wasn't plagued by a horrific injury record he'd be out of our reach. We don't have a comparable player, presence and power.Unlucky with the header last night.

Ideally he would see out his days with us on a pay as you play basis which could suit all parties when his contract expires.

All the while he is on the payroll we should make use of him from the bench but I would prefer that we just say thanks and goodbye in June.

All the while he is on the payroll we should make use of him from the bench but I would prefer that we just say thanks and goodbye in June. I completely agree with this and I’d be very surprised if the club offers him any kind of deal when his contract expires. Even if he’s capable of making a significant contribution his injury record makes squad management and planning very challenging. I really feel for him because he’s obviously going to struggle to get a deal anywhere else. His best bet might be at a club like Bromley, perhaps on a pay as you play basis. The argument there being that if a club is struggling to establish itself in the EFL a player like Aneke might be able to contribute enough in just 6-12 appearances to ensure survival while the club continues to build the solid foundations needed to be sustainable in the EFL, justifying the difficulties involved. Anyway, good luck to him both this season and beyond.

I will put this in prospective. I have a season ticket so arguably pay towards his wages. For me to get to a Charlton game it is a 4hr round trip, 240 minutes, costing me a train fare that is far more than the average cost of a match ticket. Now in a whole season how many more minutes is he on the pitch compared to my travelling time to get to one game? This isn't a one off season it us every one since he has been with us.

Aneke is a loser, another parasite leeching off the club. We’ve become a meal ticket for no-marks like him. The good natured, everyone’s second team crap has run it course.

actually as I see it, he's majorly an impact sub, and the strategy has been to ensure we are not losing, or not by more than one before we introduce him then hope he can turn things around and win us the game or at least bring us level.
If you think about last season's survival push and the early games this season, that's pretty much what has happened much of the time.
And when he's been unavailable even as a sub, we have usually lost.

6k per week is an absolute piss take for a league one footballer who hardly ever plays. Can't wait to see the back of him and replace him with someone who can stay fit long enough to make a difference.
