Charlton Athletic are delighted to announce the signing of highly-rated midfielder Terry Taylor from Burton Albion for an undisclosed fee.
The promising 22-year-old, who attracted summer interest from a number of Championship clubs, has signed a three-year contract with the Addicks.
He becomes Charlton’s sixth summer signing following the arrivals of Harry Isted, Lloyd Jones, Alfie May, Panutche Camará and Tayo Edun.
Taylor has represented Scotland at U17 and U18 level, captained Wales at U21 level and was named alongside Miles Leaburn in the Not The Top 20 podcast's prestigious 'EFL 21 Under 21' in January of this year.
After putting pen to paper, he said: “It feels amazing. Having a look at the ground, meeting everyone at the training ground, it feels really good so I can’t wait to get going. I think the big thing that sticks out to me was the ambition, his [Dean Holden's] plan and how he plans to execute it this season and just where the club is headed, in the general direction, I think there’s a really good feel to it."
Manager Dean Holden is excited at the prospect of working with Taylor. He explained: “Terry is a fantastic young talent and we’re really pleased he has chosen to join Charlton with plenty of interest from other clubs. He’s got a good eye for a pass and is an excellent set-piece taker. He is really good off the ball in terms of his mobility around the pitch, his pressing and his ability to win the ball back. I’m looking forward to working with him.”
Taylor’s arrival follows the addition of Edun on Tuesday. Technical Director Andy Scott added: “The signing of Terry is another example of the club’s recruitment strategy this summer - ambitious, young, talented players who want to come and play for Charlton and be successful. He is a player we identified with real potential and excellent character. He has impressed playing plenty of games in League One and, given his age and ability, has the potential to develop into a Championship player.”
Born in Irvine, Scotland, Taylor joined Aberdeen in 2009 and played much of his youth football with the Addicks' next pre-season opponents before moving to Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2017.
He made his first-team debut for Wolves against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup in October 2019. He joined Grimsby Town on loan in 2020, playing 16 games for the League Two outfit. The midfielder signed for Burton in 2021 where he impressed, playing 65 games for the club.

Ouch Burton were expecting alot more than that. Great signing but a very corny video.
Welcome Tel, should have done a Minder sketch, probably would have if Sandgaard had still been around to play Arthur Daly!!
One down another five to go!!

Taylor seems a really good signing, 22 is a great age as well, really fits the sell on approach

Very excited by this signing purely based on his dead-ball ability and amount of Championship interest he had. Holden and co must really be selling the project well. The more players of this calbire (May, Hector, Jones, Isted, Taylor, Camara) the easier it is to convince others to come.
Imaging going to Palace and saying look at what Rak-Sakyi did last year, imagine what he could do with these boys backing him up, give him a taste of pushing promotion. Much easier sell than 'we're shit but can we have him back anyway'.

Keep thinking it says Terry Naylor!!! If the guitar hero was still in charge he would take a 70+ year old if the price was right 😂

I’d never heard of him but he looks a good young player and sounds like Sir Andy Murray I think but we are getting there still need a striker though.

Sounds like a good player for the long term which is what we need to finally start getting a settled squad rather than wholesale changes every year. Competition for places in the middle, seems to be able to pick out a pass and a decent corner/free kick, but then so could Morgan on a good day and you could probably do a YouTube video of all of Morgan's great passes and people will think they are signing a world class player.
Feedback from Burton fans suggests him and Morgan are very different players though so feeling positive, so fingers crossed we have a signed a good player here.
Keep 'em coming.

It's great to see so many come through the door, I've a great feeling this year!
Is it our policy not to sign ugly players?

Great to see us investing in promising youngsters on proper contracts, rather than players on their way down, or purely loanees.

Think he comes across very well He does. Obviously a bright lad - not something that can't be said of quite a few footballers.

Turns out my friend knows him and his family very well, he watched him progress from a early age. This lad could be a very good signing Great interview from him

Delighted with signings like this - age grade international pedigree, still young and a Charlton player not a loan.
If this is evidence of the sort of signing Scott has been charged with bringing in then bring it on.
It’s such a joy dipping into this forum in these exciting times.

Great to see him back in training. I think I must be in the minority here…. but I was completely underwhelmed with what I saw during the brief appearances he made- He looked to me a basic water carrier who could take a decent set piece As always very happy to be proven wrong and I will be the first to hold my hands up if he comes through and becomes a mainstay

He only played a handful of games but looked very lightweight . His set pieces were awful too .
