Given the heavy handed approach from Welling and Dartford? Both opponents were very physical with their players wanting to make a name for themselves during their day out in the sun.

Dartford was good yesterday plus a good crowd of 2,800.

Think it would happen against any non league side...main issue like Welling there were a number of players out to impress and earn a contract for next season, so there going to put themselves about a bit.

Damned if you do damned if you don’t, could get injuries anywhere suppose we’ve just got a man up and get on with it.

Always a risk of injuries but you know you’ll get a battle on your hands against these types of teams. It’s a great battle to get players ready for the start of the season. We’ll play teams like this in our league.

Good for the pubs in Dartford and Welling when Charlton play them.

It’s not ideal but it’s a first good match kick around for us.

Am I the odd one out here? I didn’t find Dartford’s approach at all over physical - there were some robust challenges and when required the ref called the foul. Indeed, the guy that clattered Dobson got booked and was substituted before half time because of further indiscretions by him. A good call by the Dartford management. The red card was also correct. What matters for me is that Holden has not complained. www.charltonafc.com/news/holden-it-was-good-challenge. Football is a physical game, we don’t expect opponents not to make a challenge do we? Injuries happen at any time. Just because we play local teams is somewhat irrelevant - we could tour the Shetland islands and someone could get knackered. The only reason to stop local friendlies, in my view, is that it gives the knuckle draggers amongst the fan base the opportunity to disgrace the name of the club by misbehaving in the bars. Perhaps the fixture will not be repeated, not because of over exuberant tackles by opponents but because the Dartford club might be fed up dealing with the anti social behaviour of some of our fans and wouldn’t want a repeat next season. Speculation by me, of course.
