Don't think we've done anyway near enough at the close of the window. Needed at least a hold up striker, a number 10 and centre back who's decent. In my mind we are probably weaker now that we have lost CBT. We all need to be praying that Ladapo comes good, because at the moment we need 3 or 4 goals to win a match. Lose the next 2 games and the panick will really set in

Im afraid it doesn't. What the fans want and total common sense are two diffrrent things. If Nathan Jones for example wants assurances that there will be a healthy budget available to him over the summer the board are not going to spend 2m now are they. He or whoever comes in needs to assess what he has first. Only by doing that will he know what a4eas of the pitch need improving. We can all amswer that for him because we know having watched the side for six months but he hasn't so we have yo trust him. Best scenario is we stay up and a new manager has all summer to bring in what he wants. Don't forget he'll have is own contacts too and 2m+ will go further over three summer months than it will during the final days of a January window. Spot on. I'm probably in the minority, but yesterday's lack of activity in the market really didn't bother me much. Having said that, we need to stay up first, but I personally believe Jones will get enough of a tune out of the current crop to do that. I guess if we'd been able to add the likes of Collins it would have been great for them to effectively have a pre season starting now, but it was always going to be difficult to attract players of that ilk whilst in the position we are. The summer COULD be a very different story! It would be a lot easier to "sell" the club and it's vision with a clean slate, especially with Jones at the wheel! Let's just get the manager confirmed, that'll give everybody including staff and fans a much needed lift. Agreed .. think the window been a great success 8 new players squad reshaped and yes we could have done with another striker and number 10 think the prices and demands are inflated this time of year and we have players who can play these roles .. makes more sense to hold till the summer where we will get better players most likey cheaper or out of contract .. … well done to the board

Personally don’t think that transfer window was great.
We’ve managed to lose our best creative player without replacing him with another winger.
We’ve still got no Number 10 either.
Didn’t manage to clinch the signings we most needed, as neither JCH or Collins signed.

Just posted on another thread that after McGrandles and Fraser exits we still have around 27 players on the books including a few injuries. And that 13 are either loans or out of contract in just a few months. Thats's a chance to give all an opportunity as we search for our next win. And then bring in some real talent as well as balance the squad. For example we have two senior keepers but not many would describe either as an elite League One player. So they compete, and one departs over the summer to be replaced by somebody better. And so on. Several jabs made comments about the plethora of midfielders we currently have. Assuming he signs up, Jones needs to find the best combination, including subs... and build on what has been shocking all season. We'll soon see how much of a prospect Coventry is and who is preferred alongside. Let's enjoy the journey, especially the first win. Then send our good wishes to all those who leave in a few months time. This scenario might be a repeat of Summer 2011 / 2018 or something very different. Who can tell right now? So one step at a time! See if the appointment is signed off, who plays tomorrow and how we play. We'll all have a far better understanding in a few weeks time.

Not a great window for me as we are left with a very lopsided squad for the rest of the season. CBT , arguably our biggest attacking threat and most exciting player has left . In turn we are left with 3 dodgy keepers , a defence where our best centre back is probably Terrell Thomas , an overload of defensive midfielders and a has been in Lapado as one of only 2 fit strikers.

Sorry Reams but my real concern is the staying up bit. We haven’t won a game in 3 months, have a back 5 that concedes 2-3 goals per game and the team was desperately in need of a quality injection especially in the middle of the back three where we have a huge weak underbelly Jones will have a challenge turning around a losing mentality just as MK Dons did last season and TBF they weren’t a bad side. For me it’s all about the here and now and not what’s in store for the summer and I really fear for us for the remainder of the season Hoping I am wrong and I will be the first to put my hands up and admit it if we start to win games on a consistent basis To be fair, we have signed three defenders in January - including two centre halves from Championship clubs, plus two defensive midfielders - one from a Championship club and one from a Premier League club. We can only start eleven players and we have added four from a higher division that should all make us harder to score against. I don't see how we, as fans, can expect any more additions into the defence in the January window. I don't want to steal a trademark quote from seriouslyred but let's see how many goals we are conceding per game when those four have played six, or so, games. For those that were demanding that we sign even more players we have to accept that it would, presumably, have taken longer for them to gel. We have to go to the end of the season with what we have. The only player that left that had contributed much this season was Blackett-Taylor and it was clear that the style of play was not going to accommodate him, and we weren't setting the division alight with him in the side playing 4-3-3 (or 4-2-3-1).

Hey maybe your right mate if Gillesphey captained Plymouth but I certainly didn’t see any leadership skills going on in the game against Northampton, just more disorganised defensive chaos going on like it has for the majority of the season I haven’t ready anything about him from anyone saying he is our new leader at the back or maybe I have missed something We shall see, hopefully Jones will get to work straight away drilling them on the basics of man marking and not backing off

The mentality at the club is rotten, and I am afraid that part of that is attributable to a complacent hardcore in our supporter base (coincidentally, the ones still going) who are more interested in chip portions, indulging in daily humblebrag on CL (what a classic this week …”I’ve interviewed and met every Charlton manager since xxxx”), museums, fanzines & peripheral nonsense like being seen to be important, than pressuring the club to increase playing standards. Well done reamsofverse for making ITTv the forum that fans went to for the breaking news in recent months. It has so gloriously offended a handful elsewhere , precisely because they revelled in that status when their inept chum “Muzza” was busy wrecking the club. We don’t hear much about those so called friendships and links today 🤔🤔 “We don’t want to be like Millwall” is a familiar refrain from this lot, but it’s a fact that Millwall’s fanbase would have drummed our last few charlatans out in short order. I know quite a few Millwall fans and a couple of West Ham, and they are all incredulous at how tolerant our dwindling fanbase is of the crap we have suffered in recently years. Anorak-sia Nervosa 🙄 Appointing Jones is a massive positive, and I am really pleased that we finally have investors who not just talking the talk but walking the walk. It’s not just the money - seeing these guys taking a hands on interest in managerial recruitment this week is a massive plus point, IMO. The whole culture at the club now needs to change. I know what you are saying about not lying down etc and taking it but as but as we see from other clubs, i.e everton, it sometimes only leads to more negativity around the club and a toxic atmosphere amongst the supporters and in most cases doesnt actually improve the situation. There are still a lot of supporters who didn't like some of the more aggressive 'anti-roland' stuff that went on a few years ago and as it turns out now there are some that think we was better off with him!! I believe the culture at the club is changing but that its just not quick enough for the short-term situation we are in. I am pleased with the players we bought in and if NJ signs then thats a massive step forward, so although last summer's window wasn't great, I believe they (investors and SMT) have realised their shortcomings and are dealing with it now things have come to a head.

Ramsay and Small are the players we should go for. Ladapo off kilter but good potential and as a loan we can assess.
I'd take a punt on Fosu who could allow Alfie to play 10. Not played this season but worth a gamble.

Re Elerewe: As ever I'm bemused that many of the people on a certain other forum even have the brains to tie their shoelaces.
They're all reading the phrase the phrase "Charlton have a first refusal clause, meaning the club will be made aware, and can match, any offers that come in for him" as meaning we can buy him back for what he sold him for.
They're genuinely all talking about how if someone in future offers 100k we can buy him back for £25k (or whatever we sold him for) and sell him to the bidding club for £100k ourselves.
What part of the phrase WE HAVE TO MATCH THE BID (ie pay £100k ourselves) do these halfheads not understand?
I honestly wonder whether many our fans (not here but on that other site) even graduated kindergarten!

In other notable facts:
Deji Elerewe was the 2022 L1 Apprentice Of The Year.
Zach Mitchell was the 2023 L1 Apprentice Of The Year.
Thierry Small was bought for £3m just after his 17th birthday.
All three are the same age (19-20) and who knows what level any might eventually end up playing the bulk of their careers at.

I honestly wonder whether many our fans (not here but on that other site) even graduated kindergarten! I agree weststandfruitloop These clauses are not always easy to understand and of course we aren’t privy to the contract. However, what sometimes might appear to be attractive can often be fairly meaningless in practice. In this case, I think all that’s being said is that if Peterborough, say, make an offer to Bromley we need to be informed, at which point we can choose to match the bid or better it. Even then, we’d need to convince the player to resign. The only benefit of what’s been agreed, therefore, is that we can’t wake up one morning to find he’s moved on. I suspect the clause is actually of more value to Bromley because it might trigger a bidding war. Re your post elsewhere on Thierry Small, I agree entirely. Elerewe’s move to Bromley is yet another example of how difficult it is to judge the true potential of even very talented young players. It’s not so long ago that fans were concerned about a rumoured move to West Ham. In turn, this means that if a bid comes in from a club higher up the pyramid it can create a real dilemma. Take the money and run or hang on to the player in the hope he might develop? Sell on clauses are, of course, an elegant way of dealing with this uncertainty and work for both selling and buying club. It will be interesting to see how Elerewe develops. I’ve seen him play for Bromley and he seems to be rated there. He’ll play regularly (in a back three I think) and he might just be playing League Two football next season.
