Personally I think it’s a shame he gone .. he had it tough over the last how many years would have been good to see him be able to recruit without having one hand tired behind his back and s decent budget to work to .. he pulled of some miracles and he had excellent contacts .. let’s see what Andy Scott can do important few weeks for him to make his mark with the fans

You would expect a guy in recruitment to get some deals right but he brought in some complete turkeys regardless of what budget he had This summers recruitment has been a breath of fresh air compared to the last few years

Right thing for the club this departure and will probably be good for Steve too as the last few years must have been draining. Credit for the year 18/19 where he delivered big time. Other than that a real mixed bag performance.

There has been no apparent strategy or attempt to recruit players who might blend or fit within a manager’s preferred system or style of play. That simply has to change and my expectation is that it will. Under Gallen it appeared as if we simply recruited players who happened to be available and who someone “fancied” without thinking about where they’d play and how. We were not operating on a shoestring during the Sandgaard ownership period but the recruitment was nevertheless shambolic. Gallen’s excuse might be that it wasn’t all his fault, but senior people need to stand up to be counted.

That's all very well in theory but when one stands up at a club run by Sandgaard it's probably best to have a job offer lined up elsewhere! One by one those who helped put together the 2018/19 promotion squad are leaving the building. We were there watching that side develop and then at Wembley when we won with virtually the final kick of the game. We certainly had a top six budget bud had also sold Grant in January to be replaced by... Parker. Just leaves us to thank Gallen and anticipate the impact of Scott, plus the rest of SE7 Partners. They have four weeks to shape the squad for the first half of the season. As you imply, one hopes for a more integrated approach to the final signings. Let's see where we are at the end of September!

"Lee Bowyer reckons the job that Steve Gallen did at Charlton Athletic should not be understated and says many of the deals done in recent years were not under his control." Explains a lot and is something I assumed was happening. I think Steve did a much better job than fans believe, under the circumstances he had to work in. Hope he goes onto bigger and better things! Have QPR recruited anyone yet?

It seemed also that he felt that Roland Duchatalet was a better owner (at least during the time Lee Bowyer was in charge) than Thomas Sandgaard (and certainly more than ESI).
I actually think given the circumstances we put together a decent squad for 2020-21 and had it not been for the massive injury list we had in the middle of the season we'd have been in the playoffs easily.
